Ship Combat

After just having installed and started this mod I have a question...
What type of "enemies" can you encounter while in your ship, I have only seen River Pirates but surely there must be better soldiers out there? Does this change when you choose a faction so that perhaps enemy lords can appear?

All help is appreciated..

edit: Another question is what is the alley used for? I mean there is nothing and no one there..

The alley is the scene wen you have to kill the merchant, mirathey enabled the cheats and this come into the package 
Just travel to near tihir and the nord empire, you will spot ****loads of lords on ships.
