Right lads, its been a while since i've actually checked this board, but i've gone thru it briefly and found nothing relevent to what I am to "suggest" (Meaning promote the idea).

In single player, crossbowmen are a very powerful unit indeed and even get the advantage of having a board shield to protect them selves! (Lucky!) Anyway, my point is, is that if you carry a shield on your back, arrows/bolts which are shot at you will hit your shield, absorbing damage.

Now you can guess what i'm going to say. Why not put it in Multiplayer, ok the Rhodok xbowmen are strong enough, but really in an open field, when rhodoks are chosen, they die half the time, especially vs archers. Like the Italian Pavise Xbowmen, they used their shields to protect them selves in range more than in melee.

Xbowman get the advantage of accuracy, power at short range and heavier armours and weapons. Archers get the advantage of range, moderate power, long range missiles, average armours and even get decent weapons. Personally, there has been an increase in archery recently, and to balance the books, this idea might be worth considering

I could say if this were to be implemented, that the xbows must pay a penalty of some sort, maybe take away a bit of Ironflesh or/and reduce 1h and 2h profficiencies slightly.

Please comment on what you think, would be nice to have this

What are you talking about? Using Pavise shields? Or maybe making the Xbowmen turn around when they reload so the shields on their backs are facing the enemy.

I'm fairly sure shields on the back still absorb damage. Would be neat to set them up as pavises though.

I'm sure thats perfect english there.

Yes, both. Actually have the board sheilds absorb damage, or make a clear indication that it does so.

I honestly don't think it does absorb tho. If it does, then dont worry, i'll lock this post.

This already happens, no? You get a message "Hit shield on back!"

I did read what you said. A couple of times in fact. And I was under the impression it was in multiplayer...it's part of the engine.

I've actually never noticed it, it doesn't have much of an effect to be quite fair. Its kinda useless even having it in there (if you think that its in) if it barely does anything if the absorbtion is... low?

EDIT: Hmm it seems it does, like you said. But I personally feel it could do with a more of an obvious effect.
