As far as I know, this is not a bug.

?‍♂️
The game just keeps going in the wrong direction.
It would be great if the shield worked like a paveza for Genoese crossbowmen, but this is not in line with the design and vision of TaleWorlds, perhaps for the modern gamer this mechanic is too difficult to understand. So I'm sorry too, friend. You can write a message in the suggestion thread, maybe others will support you.

Thank You. I was just working on something similar btw. I had a few approach.
1. Deployable Pavise (needs C# coding)
2. Reloading crossbow animation is like total war where they turn around to reload (needs custom animation)
3. Use the kettle helmet as a shield attached to the head so that when they bend over they're protected (wip)
3b. Equip an oval shaped shield on their arm so that when they bend over this protects their body (done)

But all this needs the "shield block on back" to work. There was a mod that worked, but is no longer being updated.

I will look forward to it, I hope you will succeed!)

That's already how it works. According to this thread, if you have a shield on your back, it adds +10 to armor if you get hit from there.

There is also a perk at 225 crossbow skill called "Pavise" with this effect:
According to that thread +10 armor gives like 4 damage reduction in a 20 pierce damage hit.
Not enough.
Also that perk... I hope devs are not holding back because they want you to grind for a feature that should be inherent to the gear.
As I understand it after searching the perk in https://www.bannerlordperks.com/table
Even after grinding for it you still only get a 75% chance of nullifying the projectile damage if it hits the shield.

Wow, I have to say that I really don't like that.

But 10+ armor doesn't really do anything for the damage calculation. As stated above, a 4 damage reduction is nothing. I really like what others have said. If the devs are really adamant to keep the damage, it should be like 10 damage tops. This will act like feeling the effects of being bashed/recoil.

I suspect most perks only apply to the player? If so, its pointless. This should not be a perk. This needs to be a feature.
