Settlement Food Production

Is there anyway to raise this beyond fields/granary/policies etc. Even when all of these are maxed it seems I constantly need to buy food from other settlements and funnel them into my city to keep it from starving.

Cheers,

Nothing has really been explained that well by taleworlds regarding food supply.

Like you, Ive just been getting all the right policies and projects completed.

And I've also been reducing the garrison numbers to a small amount of high level units rather than lots of low level units. Then putting some focus onto increasing the militia.

All production is lacking in my game, after 2 ingame years all cities lack food and other basic goods, you cannot find hardwood below 25 or grain below 15 anywhere even in my cities that i have been protecting against raids and keeping high prosperity/hearths
Villages do not generate enough for the towns

Agreed, villages do not produce enough (or cities consume too much) even when I protect the villages surrounding. Right now I am pretty much forced to use garrisons don't eat/starve mod by V on nexus mods to keep the game balanced. This way my elite garrison won't starve because some army came and bought up all the food, and AI garrison won't suffer for the same reason.

Maybe village production was balanced with peace in mind, if no village was ever raided and no bandits ever disrupted villager deliveries it would even out, but even if you protect your stuff so that it doesn't happen to you the caravans will come into your cities, buy stuff and sell somewhere else, so it spreads the shortages over.

Something should be done to balance this. I understand that devs want that every actions have consequences. But Cities needs a bit of a boost for food production !

What helps for me greatly is getting rid of bandits/looters. They frequently kill the villager parties that bring fresh supplies. Kinda furstrating to do in Khuzait/Aserai regions, these steppe and desert bandits move at 7.0 speed and higher most of the time, and 4 of them can take out a group of 20 villagers easily.

Patrols are a sorely needed feature, hope it gets introduced in one of the patches fairly early

Pretty sure just protecting the villagers is not enough, i keep 4 clan parties patrolling my villages the area is always clean of bandits and my cities are still with all product prices on the red

May depend on location, but my 4 cities (northern/north eastern part of the map) are all doing fine in the beta branch after making a dedicated effort to purge the bandit hideouts.

Agreed.

You can create companion parties at the moment, but you can't give them orders so they just roam around doing random stuff. They do help however as I receive reputation from nobles from time to time.

Someone made a mod recently for that, but i haven't tested it myself, so i can't tell you if it works well

The best way to raise food is to:

1. Prevent your villages from being raided. For each unraided village food is automatically deposited into the town stockpile as if by teleportation. The more prosperous the village the more food is deposited.

2. Keep food prices low. Each town has its own budget to buy different food types off the market based on its prosperity. If you sell a large quantity and variety of food to the town market it will drive down food prices and the town budget can go further. You cannot manipulate the market for the castle because they do not have a market; the castle depends far more on the local villages.

3. Upgrade the lime kiln for the town or the garden of the castle. The lime kiln raises village production so they provide more food to the town. For the castle, the garden automatically adds to the food stockpile. DO NOT START WITH THE GRANARY, it raises the amount of food the town can STORE not produce.

4. Keep trade flowing. Caravans and villagers can travel freely during peacetime but during war they are fish in a barrel for enemy lords. In addition, culling local bandit populations can also help greatly. In my experience they are not enough on their own to stave a town, but combined with enemy lords they can choke trade flows.

5. Obviously, prevent as many sieges as possible. Every day an enemy lord sieges a town is another day villagers and caravans cannot sell it food. The longer the siege goes on the longer it will take to repair the damages.

6. Be patient, if trade can get to your town then things should return to normal in about an in game week (barring no poor market balancing or bugs).

I wish that Taleworlds would actually tell players this somewhere so I don't have to keep posting this in every " no food : ( " thread. Its not explained anywhere in Bannerlord.
