Serious question about blocking and some other stuff

you'll not be able to improve playing against bad players because they will not punish your mistakes. So you'll end up being better than them but not anywhere near 'good'. Score doesn't equal skill.

Saying that all casual players are bad players don't make sense. There are still very good players who knows what they're doing and you can learn from them.

I highly doubt that the average casual player is better than the average competetive player. Yes, there might be a few decent casual players, but that's it. Casual players play casually for a reason. They don't wanna invest that much time into the game and become better learning more mechanics - they just wanna have fun playing from time to time. If you really want to improve you'll hit the limit real quick if you stick to casual servers.

Well the problem with that is the meta is completely different. It would be like telling an Olympic sprinter that your running motion is more fluid than his because youre faster than the local highschool kids in a 100m dash. Yeah you might be good but until you observe and learn the best techniques you'll never hit your true ceiling.

Not saying that all public players are bad, but playing an 8v8 battle with an organized team will make you better a metric ton faster than greatsword flailing on deathmatch.

Okay, I know that I can become better by joining some group where people play blood taste in their mouth, but that was not the question which why I started this whole thread.

The question was about the weird/buggy blocking / attacking animations and automatically changing weapons. If those and many other simple things cannot be solved, I think it's a waste of time to start playing this more seriously, because the game is broken and I don't know how to fix it. If it would be doing the animation only once, I would understand that I made the block wrong, but now it does the animation 2 times, so it will steal from me few precious milliseconds and makes me killed.

I've watched competitive videos enough to know that people are there almost always shielding, so they don't have that kind of problems.

Finding out that the game is broken just now... Well done.

Seriously, you asked and you got an answer. By the way, the TG servers and Mount&Siege are so over-scripted, that I am not really surprised you experience problems with this stuff.

doesn't mean they don't know how to play without shields or never do it? Yes, warband is buggy and there're plenty of things which would need fixing but TW doesn't bother. It happens from time to time that you block hits that come from a different side or that animations are bugged f.e. archer shooting without the bow animation or swings are cancelled. If it took you 8k hours to notice that yeah...

I've seen this all the time, but it took me 8k to write here because I knew this community is one of the most toxic I know and people get triggered from 0 to 100 in seconds and start insulting and questioning me in bizarre ways.

If you're playing battle at this point, is there a difference between the two?

battleplayer is probably an outdated term but you got my point  if there still is a proper battleserver people can play on but donno if thats the case

E: WBMM counts too! Don't know about its current state but i still get events from the group. Should still be alive
Noone insulted you or anything. Your question was answered pretty fast but you shifted the topic.

For the blocking issue, there are multiple causes. Rarely it's a bug, sometimes it's lag, there's not much you can do about that, but in most cases it's either caused or exacerbated by imprecise mouse movement. If you have high sens randomly moving the mouse around, or you're doing a lot of diagonals because you've not kept the opponent centred, the blocking can get a bit glitchy. Try and keep your opponent focused and do simple horizontal or vertical movements when blocking, you should see the blocking bug happen less.

For the random weapon change, I get that a lot and assume it's just either my mouse or, somehow (because it doesn't happen in other games), the game being very sensitive to middle mouse. At the same time in this game you're whacking the LMB and RMB a lot more frequently so maybe it just causes the middle mouse to activate more often. Either way, we both should do what Marnid did and remove that keybind entirely but I'm too lazy.

I do most of my work on PC and Warband has been for me for years the game which I play when I am having a pause from my work. This also is a very small game and don't get much from the computer, so typically I just alt + tab away from it and leave the game running in the background. That keeps the steam counter also going.

I hold the blocking button ofc, which is RMB with my settings.

Internal joke

Anyway, I am asking do you release your left click after you finish your attack and switch to block or do you keep on holding it? There are two ways to block and feint. One is a noisy feint where you release the attack button before switching to block to interrupt the attack, it makes the "swoosh" sound with your sword. The other way to feint is called silent feinting, and it is done by changing block directions whilst holding the left mouse button down before releasing the attack. This way there is no "swoosh" between the feints. Both feinting methods have their uses and styles vary but this can also have impact on your current issue, which method do you use?

I use the first method. I used to like that "swoosh" sound.
