Serious Debate type forum proposal, feedback needed

Personally, I'm still mostly against the change. I think it's good to have an outlet for people to focus their more spam-like activities rather than on the rest of the forum. If people are limited to only one or two such amusement topics I think we'll have a lot more trouble having to warn and temp ban people.
I also don't think that a debate board would get much traffic, though I could be wrong.
Still, all things said and done, it doesn't too much matter to me either way.

I propose leaving fun stuff, but allowing everyone in the whole wide world to be able to see the personal name, address, phone, birthdate, social security number, credit card number and all relatives' perticulars of those who post there :
On a more serious note, I suggest we just rename "fun stuff" to "spam", since in all my time of clicking on those boards, I have yet to see anything which is remotely "fun" - most of that goes into off-topic anyway ::\ Not sure if merging that and the current "off-topic" is too good of an idea though - it was quite refreshing browsing through 30% of interesting threads there, without the addition of "what ate me for dinner" threads : But it's up to the admins - whatever works for you guys to monitor would pretty much benefit the forums as a whole. The rest of us can adapt ::\

Getting rid of fun stuff is like the alcohol prohibition in america. It caused more problems than it solved.
I think fun stuff is quite convenient because it mostly prevents the likes of Jerky and Incaa from spilling out into the more serious forums.
To be honest, I would support both a spam topic and a serious discussion topic. As soon as you open the serious discussion, you'll find the atmosphere breeds itself, and you get dedicated people to that area. Just like the Historical section where the likes of Eogan and Brasidus hang out.
I think fun stuff is quite convenient because it mostly prevents the likes of Jerky and Incaa from spilling out into the more serious forums.

I could see the Other Games and Music, Books and Art boards being amalgamated, though, as you could argue that games are an art form...

Actually, what would be easiest would be to put an absolute end to the 'spam' topics (who ate fish and what kind today?). Merging everything back together would make it easier on us, but it would also make it harder on the average member.
I think it would be best to remove Fun Stuff and then either replace it with a debate area or leave it like that and have debates in general OT. Easier on us and easier on regular members as well.

Going down an extra page is not really harder than searching through the hierarchy. That said, there are some large swaths of topics that I'm uninterested in. Fun Stuff, if it were only forum games, I would stay out of. Mostly the same for other games, and the art sub-forum, so it's kind of handy to have the seperation, if you are uninterested in the topics covered.

What I dont understand, is why can't we have both? It's not hard to have another sub forum, and if there were any subforum to get the axe, I'd say it would be the music and art forum, as that one gets the lowest amount of traffic. So, I say add a debate forum, and dont get rid of the extras, or add a debate forum and get rid of music/art. If we get rid of fun stuff we are either A) going to lose alot of members, or B) get overwhelmed by spam in the regular part of the forum. It seems to me that the ultimate goal of this, for the admins, is to get rid of fun stuff. I dont agree with that, but I do want a debate forum. See my topic I posted on it.

Reading through fun stuff tells me that if we lost members because it was removed, the forums wouldn't miss much.
No worries about the spam spilling over though ... there are mods on hand in case that happens.
I think the regular off-topic area would (and is) a good place for serious debates ... the debates will get de-railed and go off on tangents no matter how heavily moderated they are, it is the nature of a serious debate.
The books/music/art area isn't used that much, but when you compare how many real posts actually find their way to 'fun stuff' ...
Really though, I believe that it is still 'up in the air' as to how it will go. I just hope that whatever the outcome ... 'fun stuff' is destroyed *dramatic pause* forever !!
