I'd like to see the towns that buy items at high price actually use them so they constantly need more. Caravans should pick up more than just items to transport around but buy and sell everything from merchants including smiths. I'd like to see a self sufficient economy where the amount of money or stock a merchant has is dependent on whether his caravans can make it and what not, so that by raiding caravans or protecting them you can strengthen your economy and weaken the enemy's. The more money a merchant or smith has, the more stuff they can produce, the more caravans will move between the two towns, the more circulation of items.

Also, I'd like to see slaves sold have an affect. The more slaves you sell to the salt mine may temporarily lower the price of salt from them. The more slaves sold to Zendar, the better their entertainement for the arena and the more money the town has.

About the MQ, I think it could take 4 different paths that lead to one final end. One would be working a bandit, one as a swadian, one as vaeger, and one independantly. From there, certain quests and such can be accomplished different ways.

I'd like a house or living area, one, in any town you please, as a place to safely store your gold.

i like the idea of a house to store the gold and/or other items... hell i like all the ideas you posted in this thread

...safely store your gold how? Why should people not steal your gold? Chances are that such a scheme, done propperly, would involve paying people to protect your gold, and hoping they don't decide to steal it themselves.

Possibly, I didn't really like my money stroage suggestion because it'd mean people would just start racing back to their place after every battle. Maybe you could invest money by hiring yourself caravans so instead of running them yourself you have people doing your caravans for you, and all your money is in the trade, that way it's still quite stealable, but at the same time not stealable from you.

I like the idea of raiding Swadian caravans to choke their market and then selling them back their own goods at insanely high prices. I mean like putting an embargo on a town, blocking all the entrances and cutting off their food supply, much like the bandits camped outside of the starting town in Arcanum.
