Seen Any Good Movies Lately?

In the book, the aliens invade in the present day (or the present day back then, pre-WWII when it was written).

I think the red plants would be martian plants, but they don't grow in earth's atmosphere. At least, that's what they were in the book.

One good movie is Seven Samurai. 50 years old and 3 1/2 hours long. A classic.

quoted for truth. Saw it once, bought the Criterion (sp?) Collection dvd the next day. Best movie I've ever owned.

I've heard that pretty much any Akira Kurosawa movie is good. I haven't watched seven samurai yet because everytime I remember to rent it, someone else has it checked out. I've seen parts of Ran and it looked cool and interesting (it's King Lear but Japanesy). I didn't see the whole thing because the DVD was in horrible quality, scratched, and the remastered edition was supposed to come out soon (but I haven't heard from it since). I have seen a movie called Kill! which is apparently a spoof of Seven Samurai and other such movies. I thought that it was SS and was screaming out, "This is an incredibly ****ty movie!" the entire time I was watching it until I bothered to check the channel guide.

 I was talking about recent movies but since the old classic The Seven Samurai has been brought up...

I remember seeing it again a couple of years ago when I was a grad student in Berkeley and there was a showing at this giant single screen theater near downtown and it was fantastic seeing it way larger than life!

There's an even greater epic quality when watching a film like this on a movie screen that seemed to rival those old time "drive-in" theaters. The tiny movie screens we have in today's multiplex cinemas look puny by comparison.

The Seven Samurai is a fav of mine, though I only watch the parts I particularly like. I'm the same way with Ran, Rashomon, and Yojimbo: I watch mostly certain scenes.

Try Yojimbo if you liked Seven Samurai.

Recently I saw Charlie and the Chocolate factory and it was better than I expected, some of the jokes actually made me laugh. I also saw Dark Water, which was a big let down even though it had a great cast. I would have to say that War of the Worlds is the best movie I've seen in theatres this summer.

I finally got The Road Warrior (Mad Max 2) on dvd last week. I love that movie, aside from the brief rape scene which is hard to watch.

I'm going to see The Island mostly because Scarlett Johansson's in it but also 'cuz I like sci-fi settings. Now that my M&B mania is over, I can relax a bit.

I saw a trailer for King Kong (or maybe they're calling it just Kong) and it looked surprisingly interesting, so I may see it when it arrives.

Indeed King Kong looks $10 worthy. Of course, I always end up seeing any Jack Black movie. Even Envy. God I hated Envy.
