Seeking Advice!: Being Marshal and So On...

Hello all! So, I have a bit of a story from tonight's run of some Mount and Blad-ing, that relates to being in a faction, combat, and being marshal. The questions will be right at the bottom though to get to a chase of this situation.

- So! A few nights ago, the king of my faction decided to confer marshalship on me for the first time I've ever been marshal. This was really due to us only have like a handful of lords, since he pretty much indicted everyone, and we really only had 4 terrortories to our name. So, I decide to wait for our army to build up, find all my companions left over from the war, and just make money to prepare for a comeback!

So, after a few months, all ready for some combat! I really did not know how to go about it. I figured at first that war would start by itself, but as marshal, I suppose that I had to enact this all. Well, I decide to attack the Khergits, since they occupied most of our towns and were closest to us. Since there is no "option" to declare war immediately on a faction from what I can tell, I start off by attacking a lone vassal of the group. By this time, I have called upon all the freaking vassals in our realm and we're OFF to fight! But, it seems when I create fighting conflict with this Khergit vassal, I'm the ONLY ONE to go into battle, though the other vassals were not behind me. This was unexpected and annoying, but we won so it was cool haha.

Next, I decide we should siege a smaller city next to us. By this time, I noticed that Khergits were following me, so I ASSUMED we as a faction were enemies, but it seems it was just I who was an enemy of the state. So, I siege this close city, and we take it to my surprise, as once again, I'm still the only one to attack! Another thing that annoyed me was that though I attacked it alone, our "liege" supports himself in owning in, and instead gives me a village, which is insulting, but still, a cool instance.

NOW! I figure that we have to provoke the Khergits more for war, so I decide that we attack a castle. After the long wait of building and waiting to mount the castle from a siege tower, my party is wiped out, with no help from my assembled vassals.

So.. now i'm imprisoned, and my vassals scurry off to their own business. All my troops, gone, and my lovely companions; shoot. Our king "relieves" me of marshalship unto someone else, and we IMMEDIATELY go to war with the Nords, which are perhaps the worst faction to go to war for us at this time. I just stopped playing after this, I'm MAD and TIRED! I wanna just have our claimant take over and hope for the best haha.

*So, some questions are:

- Is there a way to formally charge war on a faction? Also in that vein, will is start without my consent as marshal?

- During sieges in a declared war, will my vassals actually follow me into battle? I assume so, but I don't expect much now after tonight right now.

- What do YOU guys think I should do now? I feel like just leaving the faction and doing my own thing for awhile, but I dunno.

Hope this isn't a tiring read, and thanks for any thoughts on this!

1. You have to wait for the king to declare war. If you are playing with Diplomacy or one of the mods that incorperates it you can try to persuade him to do so; if not I think the best way to do it is to get a quest from one of the more warlike vassals 'raid caravans'.
2. If the king has declared a war, they will(if they like you enough)
3. Your choice. I hate being part of a faction myself, but it still gives you some options loners don't get.

- 1Q-Is there a way to formally charge war on a faction? Also in that vein, will is start without my consent as marshal?

1A-The King has so start a war with the faction. You cant start war with your faction, unless its your own faction.[and if you have a mod called''diplomacy'' you can persuade the King to attack the faction.]

2Q- During sieges in a declared war, will my vassals actually follow me into battle? I assume so, but I don't expect much now after tonight right now.

2AYes they will follow you until the campaign is over or if you dismiss them. Also if you are enemy with the lord of the faction he WONT follow you.

3Q- What do YOU guys think I should do now? I feel like just leaving the faction and doing my own thing for awhile, but I dunno.p

3A-Well its your choice mate. I never accept the marshalship becouse everytime We loose a castle or town my controversie jumps from 0 to 100. And then if it reaches to 100 then the King strips you off the marshalship and gives you a reward[around 500-10000 denars. depends how long you were a marshal.] I am capturing a castle and then have it. After that when a faction is really weak[ like Swadia] I always join them to help them. Once more its your choice!

Ahhhh, ok then! I had thought this might have been the case haha, thanks folks.

Hmm, well I'm pretty salty about this, considering that I joined my faction, the Sarranids, mainly to help the people of the desert region, since I felt like that would be my goal for awhile until I felt that I knew what I wanted to do as my own person. Now, we only have like 1 town, and we decide to go against the Nords...probably the worse decision, since they own the most land right now.

Hmm, might just leave and go on my own for a bit then, we'll see!

-Oh! I also had one more question I might as well ask.

So, I lent one of my companions to a Nord lord before the war, but I seemed to have "failed" the quest, and my companion has not come back on her own like she usually does. Does this mean she might be lost, or just still in the Nordic lord's party? Hmm.. I'll just have to see. Thanks again!

In order to not fail that kind of quest, you have to actually ask for your companion back after 7 in-game days.  Lords won't just give them up on their own.  You could go back to the lord who "borrowed" her; if that doesn't work, you could try asking travellers in taverns.

I also highly recommend checking out the stickied "Official Unofficial 'Ask Questions About Warband Singleplayer Here' Thread" and "A singleplayer manual" threads at the top of this forum.  They're great places to get information and answers to questions.

Ah, ok! Usually my companion comes back to me in about 3 or so days by themselves, so I assume this is a bug with the game. For instance, one time, my companion Marnid came back to my party after like 4 days, and when I went to ask the lord immediately I would like "my companion back", he told me he needed him a bit longer, so, to each his own.

Thanks for the help folks, I did take a look at that thread, but didn't give it much of a look-see yet. I'll ask about any other question I may have, I appreciate all the help peoples. Have a good one, I'll just lock this then!
