No, you know what ruins it? Your troops giving up against massively inferior numbers that are cornered against high walls when you hit the dirt. Stop trying to be condescending.

Now what ruins this forum? Idiots like you who can't read prior posts :p

I pointed out earlier that this is not an issue of needing to magically possess other peoples bodies. This is an ancient problem of needing

A) Observer mode - You go down, an option comes up to order your men to go on, or you shout a faint cry of retreat
AND
B) Upon going down, if you choose the second option, you retreat first back to the inner city, then back to the walls.

See? Simpler fix, no body possession required :p

Wait, so you want to complain about how much it is going to suck and ruin the game to switch to the roll of another character to lead your troops in battle with a reasonable amount of Intelligence (something the Computer isn't likely to do, but YOU the human with real intelligence can do with ease,... baring a few exceptions), but you have no problem with your suggestion of an unconscious, and likely dieing person being able to float around the battle field to check out how things are going? Or what is "Observer Mode"?

Why not just have a better auto calculation system that takes into account how well your forces have done so far in battle, and maybe how well they have done in previous battles. Use this new system to figure out odds of how many on each side are dead after you fall, and if you had enough men left to take over the target, or if you've pulled back to the last stage you were in. Or worse, have been utterly beaten and fall back completely/are captured.

Observer mode shows you "Your ****ing knocked out. Now enjoy this piece of entertainement as you watch the last ten enemies get slaughtered"
It keeps a fun factor, while not removing the idea that you, the character, in the end CAN go down. Imagine playing oblivion where, if you died you respawned *Cough* TWO WORLDS*Cough* That would take away the sense of adventure when exploring that cave, wouldn't it?

But yes, auto calc needs SERIOUS work. 2 Huscarls vs 5 peasents.. peasents a good percent of the time will win.

Actually what you are talking about (the body swapping) was already done in the valkyrie mod. After you died you could take over any soldier on the battlefield. I don't know if I would want that feature in native. But the auto-retreat nonsense needs to stop. Its especially annoying when fighting bandits in a village. I don't want to think about how many times the last forest bandit got a lucky headshot and "looted" the village. Most of the new mods have implemented observer mode. I even added an option to watch the battle from your surviving soldiers (courtesy of MartinF).
