Sea Travel - i.e. boats

I'm just wondering whether sea travel will be implemented into the 1.011 version of 268B.C.?

Cause in the old version something that really pissed me off was walking across the mediterranian like I was Moses or something. It ruined the immersion. What made me think this was that in a screenshot of the Syracuse custom scene there were ships, so would sea travel/battles be included?

It wouldn't have to be implemented in battles, just change your character on the map to a ship when leaving the shore. Although it would be cool if sea battles were implemented. This would bring another layer of tactics to battles, like with Carthaginian super-ships vs. Roman infantry

Boats in scenes are props; as far as I know, ships aren't implemented in the 1.011 build of 268 BC, although they might be in (further) future releases.

Although there was this in the checklist ...

20. resolve waterwalking issue

Though its probably just referring to problems like getting stuck on the water/shores or something.

I must have got my facts screwed up or something. See below.

Yes, sea travel will be implemented.

AWESOME! Another thing that is going to be awesome about this mod.

But, will it be battles as well or just changing your char from a person to a boat when travelling on the sea? And will you have to buy a boat?

I think you will buy the boat. And also, I believe there will be battles. But you will have to buy a boat and embark from it to sail the high seas

superawesomeness!

i'm just gonna do ctrl+x until i can buy a ship and kick some Roman ass with with a Quinquireme!

I don't think they are really that expensive. All the other mods I've played they have been only around 1000 gold. But maybe he'll change it so it's much more expensive?

Having them at 1000 gold would be way too cheap. I mean, some leather armours cost that much! Unless of course it were a fishing boat or something like that.

But as for large boats with combat capabilites I think they should cost 8000gold+ i think that would be fair as you would need to be pretty advanced in the game to command one anyway (large amount of troops, money, renown etc.). And by that time 8000+ gold should be, not cheap, but something that would be reasonable to buy.

While maybe merchant/ferry ships should cost like 3000-5000gold, since they would be able to defend themselves as well as go reasonably fast. And would be in the price range for mid-game char's with enough savings.

Well, with your logic with a leather jerkin costing 1000 or so and a boat costing 8000+ gold, thats a little off

I'd personally like to see the price's very high, such as the 80-200k range...make it expensive so you actually take an effort to get it.

Too early for Quinquireme.

Also, ship combat isn't going to be that complex. At least for this version.

Well, just a suggestion for later versions: how about multiple levels on the boat, or some sort of lowering platform that goes across the ships or something. Would make it a lot easier to fight the enemy, plus there would be nearly as many people falling off the ship and dieing.

How would it be complex? Just a boarding platform or maybe 2 (i.e. Corvus) on each ship and the battle would be set. Unless of course u want to add ramming and fire arrows.

Tiberius, that "treacherous crossing" from ship to ship would be wonderful, except... recall your glory days, when you were a dashing youth in Calradia, recently sworn to a strapping, strong Lord, sieging castles at his bid and call? Remember how your troops, beloved of you, viewing you not as an officer, but as family... remember how they pushed you off the ladder, again and again, only for you to fall twenty feet and break your legs? Yeah...

True, true. I always made sure to hunt the guy who pushed me over and stick a throwing axe in his skull

But how about a swinging platform thing that would extend all the way down the deck, and maybe some railing at the end. Then it would be nigh impossible to fall down to your watery grave.

It's not too early for corvus really. It was implemented sometime during the first punic war so were just a few years off.

whats the problem in making the ship-to-ship platform just a little broader than 2 mens widths like those goddammned siege ladders. maybe also add more than 1. just improvise some sort of rope as "rails"...I just hope for archers to fire at each other while the ships are still closing in...awesomeness!
