Sea Raiders as siege troops ?

Sea Raiders are basically mid tier Nord infantry. Excellent in close quarter fighting. With some effort it is possible to "farm" Sea Raiders by
hundreds. Most people usually sell them for money but what about using them as expendable shock troops ? Say you are playing with Khergits or Sarranids who don't have strong infantry. Sea Raiders could provide a mass of assault troops for sieges.

Is this idea really workable ? Could you really recruot Sea Raiders in large numbers to fight and win siege battles ?

If you can't manage any good infantry, why not?
But i fear no helmets can be deadly for many of them... also weak shields vs xbows...

heres what I do... I get my prisone rmanagment around 30-capacity...

man hunt them with my like 30-50 manhunter squads... or stack my heroes with all blunt.

or simply engage in regular battles... as ther eare usually multiple groups of higher # parties later on.

and I wack the crap out of them getting my fill in a battle or two.

then prisoner them up in ur keep or city... i get them in to the hundreds there..

then try to recruit full party of them every once and a while and instantly bring them to place of holding.

i had about 200 do a patrol for rivacheg, didnt work out all that great as .... any battle without you present is pretty much a fail.

and... a sfor holding a keep.... i find that as long as you reach into 150-200. your keep will not be attacked. unless they decide to all out war on you realm all.

i do not however know of how much they charge per week if the benefit plays to have them (maybe mercenary equivalent in pricing) or raising up some nords and having significant difference.

Sea Raiders are about 13 denars at 0 leadership. So not very cheap as garrision troops. But I think tbey are ok as siege attackers.

As a garrison the Wage of the Sea Raiders Up to 10 Denars Per Week.

An Average cost, if u mind me to say.

---------

They are one of the best Bandit Troop. Strong & Fast, But the problem with the bandits is always their Randomly Assigned Equipment.

You may need, to assault an enemy fortress as Example, Many of them whit hand axes/ Swords & Shields. But you notice, that the half of your troops are shooting arrows or running in a charge using Two Handed weapon Or even a Spear!

Otherwise.

PowerStrike 2
PowerTrow 2
Iron Flesh 3
Athletics 2

Nice mid Troop!

But myself preffer to pay 3 more denars per head hand have

PowerStrike 4
Power Trow 3
IronFlesh 4
Athletics 4

Nord Warrior FTW!

Aye to you sir nord warrior for win.

but may i just say... when garrisoning my fortresses abroad. it always feels nice to have the SEA RAIDERS fear the discipline into the newly conquered town.....

I leave a few good knights for morale or order as it might be.

A few troops of morale security to realm relation.

but do i... oh yes i do.. always ensure that there is a measure of true fortification.

the sea raiders are assured constant wealth.... and they keep the bridge into new landers and land securerererers... to be in place for my REIGN INTO INFINITE!!!

Of course Nord Warrior is better. But what if you don't have access to Nord villages ? Sea Raiders let other factions have axe wielding berserkers too !

I just tested Sea Raiders against Sarranids in siege. Took Caraf castle (~140ish mid level troops) with ~50 of them backed by 20 Rhodok Sharpshooters and about 5-6 Rhodok Sergeants and Hired Blades. Causulties were higher than normal compared to attacking with Huscarls or Sergeants but that's to be expected. Of particular note some Sea Raiders were lost even before reaching the ladder, their 0 shield skill is a weakness. Inside they did great at tearing through Sarranid foot soldiers. From time to time Veteran Footman did kill a few. The biggest threat however was Sarranid cavalrymen. Horsemen and Mamlukes took down a lot of Sea Raiders before they were overwhelmed.

In conclusion as a Rhodok I think the traditional Sharpshooter/Sergeant combo is better for attack. But I will still farm Sea Raider as cheap garrision. Rhodok infantry before Sergeants suck terribly and Sergeants require LONG time to train. So instead of hapless spearmen I am sticking Sea Raiders as garrision in my cities. If I run low on Sergeants I can only fall back on them as cannonfodder during siege assaults.

Haha you guys do that with sea raiders because you're bored. That's not even important for the game, they are simply not good for use, just to farm
