Further, if we were to become sufficiently advanced as to eliminate human death, I doubt we'd still be restricted by the carrying capacity of this single planet. Either we'd have begun to spread, or we would have found a way to make resources far more abundant, or we'd have done both.

Or we've become mole-people living underground while the world is horribly polluted and radiated.

I'm personally hoping for the third option here.

I think there are some interesting questions that come up around immortality all the same. If humans did become immortal, and if the population reached some upper limit, would it be ethical for everyone to keep living and never make new people?

We have plenty of space left on Earth, so crowding isn't a problem. Food, however, is, and hippy ****wads who insist on growing acres of organic food instead of in a private garden are wasting farming land.

Yes, why wouldn't it be?

Being immortal would make spacecolonisation easier too. Still hella boring but centuries of waiting won't kill you.

Bull. There is lots of food, just poorly distributed. And hippies definitely aren't the problem. If ever there was a food shortage big enough the best idea would possibly be to **** off en-masse to permafrost, deserts and mountains, so that fertile land can be used for growing food. Fresh water is the biggest problem but assuming immortality I'm sure we could find a way to properly filter all those oceans and polluted rivers.

Because new people should get a turn! Seriously though I don't actually have a reason - I just feel a bit funny about it.

Truth! I blame my own country's subsidization of agriculture for a lot of hunger that happens. Then on top of that, a ****load of arable land is being wasted on producing ****ing ethanol from corn and sugarcane. **** ethanol. It ruins engines, and on top of that, ethanol contributes more to the generation of smog than does gasoline. Next, ethanol based fuels are far less efficient to produce than other bio-fuels, such as algae based fuels, which don't need arable land OR fresh water. Brazil is really the worst offender when it comes to wasting good, arable land on a ****ty fuel.

But people need to die. If they keep developing ways to save people who should be dead the overpopulation of this planet will make it implode. Tsk-tsk.
"Tragedy strikes humanity as Steven Hawking died from a heart attack earlier this evening. Doctors say that "if only we had a few more minutes, we could have saved him, but some gob****e said people need to die, so too bad". This happened in front of millions as Hawking was about to reveal the meaning of life."

Haven't I already shown you the meaning of life?

The meaning of life is not floating out there in the galaxy thumbing a ride to your frontal lobe. But is here with you now. All you must do is ask for his help.
