Saving options

Hey there. New user here, and I'd first like to express my agreement that yeah, this is a great game. Really addictive. It does have some shortcomings, which I assume will be ironed out in the final version, but there's just one thing...sometimes, I'll save a game, but later come to regret it. For instance, I saved after trading in my heavy hunter for a warhorse...darn armored cow. But anyway, some games allow for such reservations, by allowing you to save your game at several points, as different files. Right now, saving your game locks you in.

Heh, previous versions didn't actually let you save at will. You used to only be able to save when you exit the game.

So really, you should consider yourself lucky. You can always choose NOT to save, and then try out things. If they don't work, then reload.

That's very true, and I appreciate the suggestion. Still, I feel that the multiple save option would grant some more flexibility.

Has anyone ever played any roguelike games, like ADOM or Nethack? The also don't let you make multiple saves. That way, if you screw up, you have to live with it. It adds more tension to the game, and does away with the immersion-draining quicksave/quickload nonsense.

Of course, most death is permanent and final in most roguelikes, so you could at least be happy that that's not a concern in M&B.

Me! Oh me!
I play ADOM and Nethack!!!

In fact, I'm in the Monster Memory for ADOM. I helped design some of the monsters, and some other things, and was a tester for the longest time.

Bring up the Monster Memory and type in "Adam Taylor" for the "monster" type.

Man, Long Blade, look at these sissies whine.

That's it! It's time to officially request permadeath! Just like when your horse gets taken out in combat, there should be a chance that you are crippled or die when you're knocked out. The game would automatically save in such an event, to make you suffer long and hard for your mistakes.

Lol, yeah but I never got headshotted from across the other side of the level by some freak crossbowman in nethack

Heh, perma-death can suck to those who aren't careful.

In ADOM (and Nethack) there's lot of ways to just get hosed.

Like the Banshee. I'm sure tons of people were never ready for their first encounter with her.
"The Banshee's wail tears at your soul. You die..."

Or running into those "Excited" levels and getting creamed by dragons or undead.
Or being stat drained to death.

Or my nemesis...
"Previously hidden runes on the door explode..."
