NW Completed Saturday Linebattle

Apologies for jumping in one the wrong server, we tried tart on the one provided but it seemed whoever was in charge of that one didn't get the message to change the password yet and one of my impatient guys 'corrected' me and we found ourselves on another instead.

Won't happen again. Was a good line battle though.

Another full event, four servers. Pretty much all full up.

Sorry for it taking so long to get the actual LBs starting, its a bit of a pain having to sort out around 50 regiments.

Hope to see you all next week.

If my regiment brings in more than 20 guys can we just run 2 lines led by separate officers?

Yes, in fact you are forced to do that.

20 guys and 5 support (Officers, musicians and standard bearer) is the perfect number for managing lines really in our experince. Anymore  and lines become sloppy as forty connections at once on both continents playing follow the leader doesn't seem to work that well.

I hope my regiment (the 6th) will be able to join this great event

To ensure your regiment has a place in the weekly linebattle there is a meeting on the 22nd Teamspeak server:

Times for your area

7pm-British time
8pm-Rest of  EU
2pm-EST

At this meeting factions are decided as are what server you will be placed and what class you will be asigned too. If you are not at this meeting or a representative of your regiment is not you will be asked to leave if you turn up.

PM on the forums or my steam is : fieldtoby if you have any further queries or questions needing to be asked

DO NOT Message Crusader about if you can join ... he will get VERY VERY VERY VERY annoyed.

MAKE SURE you are on the teamspeak before 7pm or you will find it hard to join or you might be denied entry.

Just gonna highlight the maximum for line will be increased for 25 no more, if you have extra guys then they may well be placed on the opposite team or a different server, i myself and some of the other organisers would prefer to not have to admin lines of say 40+ as one its unfair to the smaller regiments and two they are two big seeing as we have to fit in such a large quantity of guys.

Cheers for your understanding (sounds so cheesy  )

You know, an idea popped into my head the other day and I've given it some thought.

Since buffs are now working why not give the biggest most organised line on both side the General instead of having an officer to lead them? call me being an internet optomist in thinking that a General with their buffs leading the bigger boys would give the battle something of a 'main' line to rally around and fight with instead everyone playing follow the leader Sharpe edition with their own agenda.

Worth considering an experimentation with at least.

I say Bring back Generals again, although that will put a heavy strain on 22nd ts, KB ts has 450 slots though crusader reckon we could take the ones on your server.

But having the generals of old back again would be awsome, basically teamspeak had a role to play in teamplay, your regiment took commands from a general who had "control" over the army/side they were leading ... was really really fun ages ago, problem is finding people willing to do it.

Bring back generals for Saturdays?

Organising the whole thing already takes a good half an hour. Thanks to the way the Saturday LB is organised the Generals will only find out who their regiments will be late on into the organisation. This will mean even more sitting around, waiting for regiment commanders to add the General to a whisper list and for the General to add them.
Then you have the problem of finding the actual people to contact. Everyone has their different TS and not everyone is familiar with whispers. That will take time to get around as well.
The size of the Saturday LB is a problem, it will be near impossible to find enough generals to fill the positions. Even if we only got a pair for one server each week it will still be another wall to face.

From my memory having a general wasn't exactly fun either. The idea of some guy tell you what to do with your regiment and then having a go at you if you didn't carry out his orders isn't one I wish to recreate.
I remember having regiments black listed because they didn't follow orders, I don't want to start black listing regiments because the general wanted a skirmish regiment to advance miles in front of the main body of infantry because "you have barricades".

Generals, pah.

All I remember from General battles moogs was deliverance saying "Highlander said to charge ... off we go" and then meleeing our way across the map, it was generally fun for me as a ranker thats for sure, found it hilarious.

Although yeh you can have Joe Blogs bad commanders, thats just a give and take to it. I konw you used to command the 95th moogs and what flack you got thrown sometimes, jesus some commanders were terrible ... had my fair share too, but the old old ones near the begining were fun as heck to play.

The problem you have now of people running around all over the place and drawing out games for longer was pretty much solved back then ... but had the can of worms of bad commanders, now you just have the problem of un-team supporting captains who sit side on to cannons ... which is more hilarious to watch.

Bleh whatever to be honest, just thought it would be something nostalgic to see again.

I was thinking of a slightly less complicated top heavy honour system really (these guys got the numbers and big hat, lets support their flanks)  than the older system.

I only have one problem with your idea Shako, who decides which regiment is the "most organised"?

@Kator, commanders were possible back then because regiments had a sort of mutual respect for each other. The few good commanders you would get would usually end up being friends and therefore helping the community become close.
Now things are a little more, divided. I'm sure there would be some sort of regimental politics going on to get one of their officers being the general or some regiments refusing to take orders from that specific person.

I'd like to see commanders return, just not for the saturday LBs.

Aye have to agree, too much segregation now-a-days dude, remember back then no-one really cared what regiment you were from, remember Deliverance being commander once ... my god that was a good battle, pretty funny one too playing dragoon bodyguard and actually having to commit to a fight. (No rules back then about shooting commanders and captains and all that bull crap ... we didn't give a smeg).

Think it would work for mondays with wolfs though, seen as leaders are pretty random ranging from public to regiment people to regiment captains ... must remember to talk to wolf about it

If we ever stump up enough cash to get a good NA server running, we'll give it a go doing a line battle for the NA time zone (the new yanks need another event desperately) and give it a go.
