Sergeant at Arms
just wondering about having the opponent sallying

How much advantage of men should the castle have over the player before they will sally out?
The minimum number of army that the castle have before it will even consider to sally, because i never see a 50garrisoned castle sally out no matter how small my party is.
And is there a limit of only sallying out once per day/week/month for a castle?, because a castle refuse to sally out after a 2nd try the next day, even when i made sure they have an advantage of over 3x men

The defender sallies out when they have more than 4 times your numbers. That even works when you have huscarls and they have recruits...

I'm not sure, in my games they sallied when they had 50% more than my battle size (so 150+) but that could be based on another number.

I had no problems getting them to sally out several times as long as their numbers were 4 times of mine, I already owned the next castle where I could put some troops to reduce my numbers.

of
are you sure with this, i'm trying this out with Wercheg, they have a garrison of 198+54 and i have an army of 39 knights, multiplied by 4 that would be 156 and I'm still forced to besiege the wall

Based on my observation yes, in my case I started with over 600 defenders and I had 120 huscarls and I fought them down to about 100 defenders when I stormed the walls of Thir.

I don't know for sure, but when i attacked Curaw, they sallied out when my battle advantage is -16, -14, -12, and if it more than that, like +2, or -6, they don't sally out.

So instead of numbers they would check battle advantage (numbers + tactics skill) - it's possible, I usually use the drawing out tactic at the beginning when I want a city but can't lead the necessary number of troops and I only have low or medium tactics skill.

Hmm, just curious... has anyone ever had to sally out to defend a castle or town? Via a mod or tweak of course, since the stock AI does not have enough balls to actually attack the walls unless they have superior numbers. I'd look through mission templates to check but I'm not very good at reading code, not to mention lazy to dig it up as well.

I haven't checked but I think as a player leaving the fortress and attacking the sieging parties counts as sallying out though you won't fight on foot in front of the wall.
And as you said these coward of AI won't siege superior numbers of defenders.

I seen AI with 50 troops sieging castle with 150 troops, but whenever i come close, he runs in terror!

I think this is because of my old laptop but i had 20 vaegir recruit and went to a nord lord with 70 men and when i scrolled over hiim it said "running from tyber's party"
