If you control either village or town, you would have an option in the town/village menu to station watchmen. This would lessen occurance of bandits attacking your village or hiding in remote areas of town and waiting for an easy prey.Ofcourse you would have to pay watchmen (each watchmen have 10 denars salary per week and lessen occcurance of bandits by (-2%).For example, if there is 30% chance from start that bandits attack you in city, and you hired 10 additional watchmens, there is now only 10 % chance (you cant lower to less than 5 %).I repeat, you would only have this option in your own towns/villages.

Also, I would like to see, that crimes would occur more often (as they were realisticaly in medieval times) and bandits wouldnt only go for your denars, but there would also be some chance, that you loose any items you are currently equipped with (gloves, helm, sword, arrows,etc,..).There should also be more varietes and numbers of bandits (looters, bandits and figures in disguise(who would use throwing daggers and smaller swords and would wear either pilgrim disguise or black robe with hood).Their numbers would differ from 0-7.
At taverns, you can ask tavernkeeper for information, which towns are the safest to travel and which towns he dont reccomend to visit (I already made topic about rumors a while ago, so i will be adding this to rumors topic).

Feel free to post comments

It would be good for villages, to place mid-tier troops (Nord trained footman, Swadian militia, etc) in villages, and those troops fare well against bandits. They can also help you and the villagers to repell attacking bandits/enemy lord's parties etc...

Yes. I fully agree!

But.. I do not think you should put one of the regular troops in the villages, you should rather be able to promote some of the townsmen to guards!

Simple, you add a new building, or change the way the watchtower works, and every week (or 2 weeks, 3 etc) one townsman would be trained and able to be promoted to watchman/guard! So, you'd have to go to the village, speak to the village elder, ask about "Is there any townsmen ready to preform watchduty?" and he goes "Yeah, there's 1/2/3/4 [insert number depending on how many weeks you have waited and let the numbers build up] man/men ready to serve.". The initial price would have to be rather large, to pay for their new equipment, rather steep, like 500 maybe? Then a modest weekly pay, like 10 or even less.

Each faction would have their own weapon/armour setup for their guards. They would of course join you in defending the town against bandits and should be a bit better then a tier 2 unit..

But it all sounds good : )
