He didn't cry, he just walked right up there. I think he was a mass murderer but I always thought that he was just a really tough survivor. I invite others to express their opinions and I won't argue. So now what, anarchy?

i'd have rather had him imprisioned for life (or better yet, put up for show). or if we are going to do the traditional methods, go for a public beheading

don't they already have that?
i mean, bombs every day, however, not aimed at US troops but at other civilians? (of differing religious sects)

Bah. Democracy and humanity and all that stuff is just plain crap. This was a last effort by the U.S to be vindictive I suppose.

Should have been imprisoned for life instead, IMO. But it's good that the Iraqi people were in charge of this without any Coalition interference. It's a step in the right direction - just sad someone had to die for us to come this far.

Just a shame that someone who was worst than count dracula had to die for you to come this far?

Clinical depression?

To which I reply with the words of Winston Churchill
Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed, it has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.

He was hanged under the terms that it would bring peace.

If you look at the pictures almost everyone opposed the idea (Mainly in Iraq).

Peace was not achieved, it has only escalated the opinion of many citizens of Iraq that Bush and Blair are enemies of the people. :\

"So two cheers for Democracy. One because it admits variety and two because it permits criticism. Two cheers are quite enough: there is no occasion to give three."
-E.M. Forster

I guess some of you guys just plain weren't paying attention.... Saddam wasn't hanged by the U.S.-led coalition forces, he was hanged by the Iraqi government. The U.S. was not involved in the decision-making process that led to his execution, it was an observer of the process that had little input. So really if you want to blame anyone for the execution you should be blaming the Iraqi government.

Wasn't it so that the US claimed to had given Saddam to the Iraqi government, but they said they never received him?

The death sentence was a foregone conclusion, making the trials a mere show which was put on that we could kill him with a clear conscience. I feel sorry, however, for the defense attorneys who were appointed for this benefit, who were assassinated.

In memory of Saddam Hussein, the friendly little dictator.

no.... where did you see that??

Simply because the eventual result was foreseeable doesn't mean it was wrong to turn him over to the Iraqis--who are after all the only ones who are in a position to judge him for his crimes.

Sad. Death always is. But I don't think there would ever be peace without it, life imprisonment would have meant endless fighting to get him free.

I never meant it was wrong to hand him over to the Iraqis. I simply lamented the deaths of the three defense attorneys, who died for no reason at all.

Funny how worse people are allowed to walk the streets and even run whole countries without anyone lifting a finger... Seems like it's ok to kill truckloads of foreigners as long as you don't harm your own people.

Democracy is no different from any other type of government type - including dictatorship. In fact, democracy is amongst the worst since it gives the people the illusion that they can make a difference.

Sure, it works out all fine with small, and meaningless issues, but when it comes to the major issues then the people have no power whatsoever.

Kinda makes me wonder whether dictatorship really is more honest - cause then at least you know who's in charge and what to expect, right?

What we really need is a dictatorship with someone who is above human faults like greed, corruption and so on. Preferably he/she/it shouldn't die either.
