That's right S.P.A.Z aka Space Pirates and Zombies.

Did a search and didn't see a topic for this so here we go..

It's a top down space simulator a bit like X3 minus a few bells and whistles.

The game play is very skill based, you can take out heavy ships with light ships if you dodge and can maneuver well enough.
Each ship has customizable weapons and armor ranging from rockets to beam guns.

The story is pretty unique, you are part of a crew who have been hiding and building a huge mother ship to try to get to the center of the universe to find a legendary source of "rez"
a valuable resource used for powering jump gates.

It does get a bit repetitive but £9.99 i think it's a steal.

just wondered if anyone else had it and had a few tips to share?

How is it like X3? There's really no business aspect of it, you don't own stations, and there aren't even any sort of commodities worth trading.
 
hence the "bit like x3" not "this is exactly like x3"

It has a similar space simulator feel.

And hence why I asked how is this like X3? What's the problem? You said there are some similarities, and I asked what those similarities are.

It's quite arcadey from my experience.

Also, bought the game back when they were bandying beta about, but when my computer died I stopped keeping up with it. It was quite fun then and I imagine it still is.

Suppose I'll go catch up and re-download.

Might check the game out when I get the money.

We are on the internet, it is an occasion for everything.
 
ok, well it's Like x3 in the sense you have standing with the 2 main factions in each star map and pissing them off leads to them attacking you and not trading etc.

you can pretty much do what you want but if you want to upgrade your mother ship you have to stick to the main story.

you can choose the weapons and customize your ships and decide what shields and armour they have equiped.

there is a small trade system but nothing like x3.

i would say the combat is arcady but that's down to the graphics and the fact it is a top down style game.

Okay, it's nothing like X3. The only thing in common between them is that they're both in space. Case closed, thread can continue
 
I always drop almost all armor and install few thruster modules so I can move as fast as possibly and out run enemy troops, maybe having light frontal armor if shields go off so it will absorb some damage before I can get out of enemy guns range.

This with some long range beam weapons seems to be fairly good combination staying alive yet taking enemies down.

I haven't yet got into inner galaxy, so far Big Buss has been my best ship, it is surprisingly fast and has 3 beam slots and 2 for rockets to take drones and stuff down, lots of crew slots is nice too since I like to collect everything.


At least when I was playing half of year back, AI yet had lots to be improved, though I don't know will they make it better. Wingman ships has bad way to go suicidal while I can stay alive against hordes of enemies, they just seem to blow away my hard to collect rez. At least option "When your shields go down, GET THE HELL AWAY OF ENEMY." would be nice, and lots of other stuff. Maybe support role to bombers and missile ships instead of going head to head with enemies, etc.

Dunno about what has been happening in late updates.
 
Here's a hint:
Shields. Put real good bunch of points in there. And get something with a large area of effect, be it a SRM launcher or the shotgun like weapon or something like that. You won't need too many upgrades in here, but make sure you're able to use them properly.

You will thank me once you reach the center. :razz:
 
I have been using SRMs once drones started to show up, haven't tested shotgun cannon to that purpose, but it might be good idea too.

But that probably has something to do with zombies.. hmm, well zombies and shotguns are good mix!
 
Actually I never used the shotgun. Not once. Used the the Hunter SRM or whatever they're called exactly. Lovely things.
That and beams. Loads of 'em.

Beams in a triple mounter turret. Gotta love it. :lol:

Oh and to be honest I didn't rely on SRM too much, even in the endgame and for the reason I recommend fast loading shields or the strong ones with loads of boosters. I preferred using normal missiles to have a reliable long range weapon.

Sounds like my current lay out, maybe with less advanced SRM.

Good shields are must, especially if going with little armor like me. Been testing missiles occasionally, but I do majority of kills with beams and SMRs are for defense.

edit: actually it is 1 missile and 1 SRM if 2 missile slots, unless I know I am facing lots of drones like in base attack.
 
Beams start to lose their utility once the enemy starts fielding heavy armour. Although that said, I switched to a carrier with Zapper drones for the endgame; with decent beam research you can rely on the drones to strip shields in short order and follow up with missiles or cannon from the ship to finish the target off.
