Hello guys,

I was wondering: I'm going to buy the steam edition and i'm very much interesting in running this mod to play multiplayer with my friend.

my questions please:
1. there shouldn't be any problem running this with steam game?
2. can I , while under steam run this as server & as client? or does this run through the client?

I only have 1 pc, and honestly i'm too excited just about the thought of this.
would appreciate if someone can clear my minds with this.

Many thanks.

p.s - never had a chance to play this mod and i'm just dying to try this and a few others, so i'm sorry if i'm over excited with my replies.

thanks a lot!

You cannot use the ingame hosting system for PW, but you can run a dedicated server and the Warband client on the same computer. See http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,167060.msg4051894.html#msg4051894 for server hosting information.

There is also a "dedicated server package" for testing scenes on the same computer as your client, linked in the download section, which would be ideal for your purpose.

If you haven't played the mod before, you should realize that this is strongly geared towards large public servers with many players connected, rather than a scenario with lots of AI characters to play against with a friend. I suggest trying out the mod on a populated public server first (with your friends as well), then if you really want to, start your own server or find another private server community to join.

Hey Guys,
Many thanks.

Last time we played it there was no warband if I recall correctly.
We've used to play each one at his own house, and that was mega fun.

Vornne > Regarding the package, what interest us the most is:
What happens when I stop the server? crash\powerdown\manually?
Is the data saved and we can "resume" once restarted?
We are basically aiming to start 2 players only and add a few more friends, there's work & family so it doesn't leave much time to play. maybe 45 min a day if you're lucky  last time we quitted,
but I'm not sure what happens when someone goes for work. did he just said goodbye to his castle?

I know, RTFM, download & try, and we will the second we have 2 hours

P.S - can I assume that this mod has some vanilla improvements, as well as follows it's own logic?

Many thanks again buddies.

If the server shuts down, crashes or the map is changed all data is lost.

Ok, ouch  figures, though.

So, if you "leave" the game, what about your castles etc? the world is changing.
how do the main server function in these cases? all progress is lost? no...backup points or something?
Can you elaborate please?

Thanks again.

Unmodified PW is little more than a regular Deathmatch game type with large maps, lots of players, and dynamically allocated teams. When the "round" is over, everything returns to square 0, where you started.

If you leave the game your financial and factional progress is saved. The equipment is lost though. The world persists to evolve as you are left.

Oh, that's the point then

You guys don't have any recommanded outdoor activity for the wife while I play, do you...?

One last thing: do all mods support the steam version? do I need to make any adjustments or do I have any limitation?
More than intersted to try a few.

Warband has little to no integration with Steam, you can even use your Steam serial key to activate the non-Steam version of the game.

I'm sorry but I'm confused
Didn't really get the issue with the serial, and using mods.
(I know my english is above average but I'm no native).

Care to rephrase?

Thanks  the "little to no" confused me.

My friends,
many thanks for the help.
It was a nice discussion (which can still be enjoyable anyway unless the next Question is off topic).

I was wondering which mods are you guys playing;
Gish, Splinter, Bowmen and Vornne.
