Running big maps smoothly

If battle map performance can be optimised by reducing shaders, HDR and AA etc, how can you make the campaign map run smoothly? Some mods have some vast worlds which is great, but tough on my computer. I assume it's not a graphics bottleneck but a CPU one, so can you improve the performance on the campaign map?

I have a Conroe OC'ed to 2.5GHz, Nvidia 8800GTS and 4GB RAM.

It is not really a graphical issue. It is more the number of scripts that run and a question of the pathfinding algorhythm. The more detailed a map is the more vertexes (I think this is how they are called) the algorhythm has to take into account until finally the path for the party from A to B is defined. Nothing much you can do about it. Well, you can make a map that is less detailed and of exact the same size and have your own map.txt that you use instead but, I guess, you don't want to do that.

Ritter is correct. Since I use diplomacy in my mod the speed of the game won't start to become normal until your over a in-game month.

Right I understand. I am going to be upgrading my system soon so I hope a more powerful CPU would make a difference but it seems like the game engine the bottleneck here.
