I have an idea of countless possibilties, however, I'm going to briefly outline it:

Imagine after X amount of time, loyalty, fighting for, dedication or any other solid measure your character is granted land. You, in other words, Sir Whateveryoursmelleysocksarecalledthatyounamedyourselfas become a true knight given his own land. You get to rule it, begin your own family, culvivate, trade, wage war and defend your peasants. Your peasants farm for you, bandits can try and attack your land as well as other nations. You can build a castle, keep, town, village, motte bailey.

You can even aim to become lord of the land.

Discuss.

This idea has come up several times before I think. Folks have also mentioned being able to build or occupy your own castle.

But specific to your idea, if you were given land, it would be most likely in a feudal manner, so you would still have to swear allegiance to the king that gave it to you and you would also be required to supply said king with an army of men from your lands if the call comes.

you could always tell yer king ta 'piss off' and spend the rest of your game trying ta take HIM down. wouldn't'v been the first time in history some swinging **** decided hhe could do a better job than his boss.

anything can be implemented if the programmer is commited and has the time. maw

Precisely what I implicated jrawlings. The player WOULD use a feudal system by which as you said the player swears allegiance to a king. It would provide interesting scenarios to say the least.
