Just a quick (presumably) easy suggestion for the forums.

Thumbs up/thumbs down.

Each thread gives the user an option to vote thumbs up or down on a thread. The total number of thumbs up and thumbs down is visible to everyone.

it has no effect on thread position etc..

What it does is allow people to express opinion on a thread, without bumping it.

say someone makes another "how can install mod?" thread. It gets a post from one person and then 20 thumbs downs. Instead of bumping it for the rest of the day.

now i'm sure to be told why it is such a terrible idea.

thumbs up

Eh, if anything it'd just encourage gang mentality. Would it send the thread lower down in the forum, or just give it a rating?

I dunno, sounds pointless, if it doesnt actually affect on anything.

Same first thought here.

But you could use a system like: 50 thumbs down? Removal. 500 up? Sticky!...

No, wait, that would be abused, badly.

Thanks for including the "I hate you" option. I hate you. **** off. This is a horribly stupid idea. If it has no pwoer it has no point if it does have power then it will be abused.

Woah, typical Trooper. Honestly, why do you have to be such a hostile git?

I can see where you're coming from, and it's not a bad idea. It might be better to describe it as "rating the helpfulness" though. For example, if 10 people give it a thumbs-up and 50 people a thumbs down, a newbie searching for info can look at the rating, see that most people didn't find the thread to be helpful, and thus omit it from his search results.

Of course, this comes with its own problems; how easy would be be to implement, what's to stop people from voting the opposite way just to screw around, and how do you factor in individuality? What one person might find useful, others might find useless.

Teenage Angst-y frustration? A desire to kill people lately? A superiority complex? You pick.

Arg, it sucks how teenage angst lasts so long. After the first year, its a new Harry Potter experience. Then it just drags on.

Nope.
Quickly becomes personal, becomes a popularity quest and just turns everyone into retards obsessed with getting thumbs up.
Check out TW Centre for a prime model.

No, on the basis that  forums that have a feature like this often have "IF U FUND THIS USFEL PLS GIEF THUMBS UP     " or similar on the bottom of most threads.

Keep it to myspace, then.

My feelings exactly.  This, much like forums with a +rep system, really don't help.  The helpful threads and people are typically obvious, while the ratings systems just lead people who aren't helpful to try to be (and usually fail) for no net gain.

Not to mention I foresee certain threads like any made by Dimos' and his crew/Second age would be overrun by supporters trying to 'raise' the value of the threads by spamming multiple accounts...etc

I think this would largely be pointless; like others have said, it would just develop into circle jerk business. A good thread with intelligent posts wouldn't need any sort of marker or number beside it to show people how they should feel about its content.

well i understand your points about popularity contest etc.

but in criticising the concept, you've sort of made your criticisms redundant.

It's been clearly stated that the thumbs would have no effect on thread position etc.

so if you don't like the rule (as many of you don't) then you can easily choose to ignore it/not use it and make your own minds up about threads.

However, people unlike us (i.e. who don't have much time to look at all the threads on a board and don't post in the "website and community" sections) may gain something from it.

Also I believe it's slightly unfair to assume that the system would be abused and Personally I think people who play mount and blade should be given the benefit of the doubt.

THUMBS UP XD XD PLOX PLOX      :!:  :D :P

P.S I didn't expect such hostility from the communtiy suggestions board

No. They should be beaten with heavy mallets repeatedly, even if they weren't doing anything they were planning it.

This is hardly shocking, for several reasons.

This not being a suggestion board for example, not to mention the fact that the forum is inhabited mainly by tossers, wankers and bitter gits.
