Hello Community,

We released a beta version of Roverside.

This is a fairly experimental thing, so it’s better to immediately find out the features that are described below.
Yes, it’s pretty wild and turns Calradia upside down, but we left the bandits and the trade! :wink:
It is more like a crime play than a game with constant achievements. A bigger role is played by situations than your possibilities.
However, you will definitely need savvy.

Let's just start with our names. It's Mark Novak and Gravity Joe.
We believe that the main thing in the game is not the gameplay with its mechanisms, but what kind of game moments and feelings we get. The goal of the game itself is to create them in any way possible.

A small disclaimer. :!:
The authors are categorically against the lifestyle that you will see in the game.
We kept to a satirical style and in some places hyperbole. I hope you understand the theatricality and in some places the comic nature of different situations.

Now about the place and time.
Everyone knows about the mafia, but many forgot what serious crime grew out of. It all started with the era of Prohibition 1920s. And we will begin.
From the ground up.


The Story
The beginning of the 20th century. The town of Derby is somewhere in Western Europe.
The government wanted to help the workforce - all alcohol was banned.
The country plunged into chaos. But a new profession has opened - a bootlegger.

All city criminals began to brew and sell moonshine.

Features

Hand system.
We wanted to add some realism and functionality.
Therefore, we decided to add more control over your actions using a couple of buttons. Do not worry, it is very close to the usual WASD. Judging by the tests, almost everyone got used to 2-3 games played.
Just set up a controls, watch tutorials and you will succeed.

World. global map.
? In simple terms, this is done like a global map in our beloved Warband. The exception is fights. This is all the same a criminal world and all the showdowns are not in full view of society. You just move around using the mouse. Talk with NPCs, other players, visit places, etc. Life in the city depends on the time of day.
? The sound atmosphere is built on the basis of small sources and not the global environment. In addition, the foundation is the free sound library of old Hollywood, more suitable for the beginning of the 20th century. Golden time movies, the famous Public Enemy # 1 and Angels with Dirty Faces with James Cagney.

Cinematicity
We minimized the UI in favor of atmospheric.
And not only this.

?️‍♂️You will have a first and last name. According to him, gang members will know who is ringing the doorbell, ringing on the phone. If you are arrested, the police will open a case in your name.
? Concentration of action falls on the place where you do business. Coordinate your actions with others by phone, set a time and a meeting place. Information is priceless in Derby.

Bootlegging
?See how much is connected with this: drawing up an action plan, purchasing ingredients, cooking, guarding cooked, searching for buyers. You can cook on quality or quantity. Agree on supplies with another gang, etc.
We paid great attention to brewing moonshine. The ingredients and moonshine itself have chemical properties such as toxicity, alcohol content, water and sediment. Part of the water is evaporated. There is no better recipe than your own. If you prove yourself as a cook, you will be snapped up.
? To sell a lot, pack in boxes. However, it is worth warning that storing everything in one place is quite dangerous. You can sell at retail workers who return from work in the evening and wait for the milkman. You can sell large quantities of excellent quality to the owners of underground bars. They will always buy from you. The main thing is not to forget about quality.

Limitations
  • The gameplay does not limit you to classes. You can do almost anything you want.
  • It is only important to remember the dangers and trust.
  • Of course, we didn’t include everything in the beta version.
    We needed to make sure that all vital functions worked. Now we can expand.

If you are a modder, and you are interested in how this is implemented.
The client and server use standard binaries without dll injections. Everything works on the latest version of Mount & Blade: Warband.
The server part has a rather complicated structure; it is shared over a network protocol using handlers and a database expanding functionality and capabilities.

For financial reasons, we now have only one server. This server is test and primary at the same time. Therefore, we can turn it on only for a while and it works unstably. If you want to support us, you can become our patron.

Yeah, there will be no massive battles. Well, actually, we tried to implement a similar idea in Napolenic Wars but then we faced technical limitations.
Therefore, we decided to make a standalone mod with full conception and atmosphere that we like. The main focus is on the interaction of players and the environment.

We are inspired creation by Guy Ritchie and movies with James Cagney. But since we only played Human Fall Flat and Mafia I, it turns out so experimentally for a Mount and Blade modding :grin:

It may seem ridiculous, but it was biggish. We had to reduce it to focus on the details.
