Nice looking stuff. I love the models.

and yes, i agree on the Gallic wars mod idea. I'd love to cut through legionaries shoulder to shoulder with other gauls...

btw, did you actually buy the 3 sheets seperately and glue em together for your scutum? When i made my Pratorian Hexagonal shield and 2 gallic shields i pussed out and bought plywood. Hats off to you.

Yeah, 2 sheets of Luan Plywood, or "Doorskins". If I was making a flat shield, I'd get ready made plywood though, its just stronger (Though a finished scutum is pretty damn tough). If your interested in making curved shields, find a metal working shop and have em make a 1/4" curved steel form 1" larger than your shield, then just get some wood glue, paintbrushes and a few trailer straps.

would it possible to make a battle pilum? one that you could stab (perhaps swing also?) i would be in your debt if you could do that for me

well, I'm not sure romans used pilum that way....

Didn't they throw the pilum just before they charge??

Due to the pilum's soft shaft. They bend. Once they hit their target. They are no longer usable. So if you swing or stab with them just for once. They're gone...

So, the only purpose of the pilum is to throw and then make themselves useless to the enemy.

If you mean the spear. Romans have some spears collection to choose.

Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm no history expert.

If you ever expand to a TC, I'd like to help with something like Celts, Germans, or Raetians perhaps. That'd be cool, and give the Romans something more realistic to fight than river pirates.

Sorry, no polearm Pilum, while you CAN stab someone with them in real-life, they do bend easily, and I can tell you, they have TREMENDOUS piercing power when thrown, capable of going through a piece of flat 16 guage steel, and can even gouge out chunks of concrete on a sidewalk (Hehe, the wind caught it). And thats just my cheapy chucker Pilum, just a rod with a sharp point hammered into a Post hole digger handle made to look like a Pilum shaft. I can post a picture of the damage of you want to see (Though I'm a couple thousand miles from the destroyed sidewalk now).

I've allways loved roman stuff like this, and roman stuff + mount and blade combat = a game that owns RTW  (even tho they arnt even the same TYPE of game)
keep it up, and any idea about a release date? thx

Spoof

If you're looking for help on historical accuracy and/or other factions, I'd suggest checking out the Europa Barborum mod over at www.TotalWar.org. They are going all-out on historical accuracy, and have detailed lists of units for many factions (Gaul, Carthage, Greeks, Macedonia, Germans, etc., etc.) and faction descriptions. Here's the link to their sub-forum: http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=70 . I think they'd be happy to answer historical questions.

Imperial Era, or 'post-marius' if you preferre.

I've found some books on Amazon on the Gallic warriors, specificly their equipment, so we'll see how that turns out. They've got books on the British Celts, Germania and Dacia too.

before you go all out on working on the gauls, try to get out the roman addon first, that way you can spread the joy of christmas (or the holiday if you prefer to be "politically correct") but its ultimately your decision.

Yes, it'd be nice to have some well done Romans to play with. Though, once you get to Gauls, just some suggestions; no axes (La Tene Celts didn't use them, except Raetians and Goidils, and niether of them were really 'Celts' in the strictest sense), and lots of javelins and spears, and of course swords of various length and type. When you do get to that, I do have a grasp of what we know of ancient Celtic terminology, and could help with appropriate names for Celtic weaponry and armor.

Not attempting to rush you by any means, just offering some help. I think you should take your time. Better it all be done right than done fast.

Gauls from France were conquered by the time of the inclusion of Lorica Segmenta, if your going for historical accuracy. The enemies of barbarians I could figure for Rome would be British Celts, Dacian's from Eastern Europe, and germanic barbarians.

That's if your going for historical accuracy of course. I dont know if it's out of your scope of the mod, but it would be interesting if you had some presence of the Parthians. Perhaps Parthian Horse archers + Cataphracts as the type of Black Knights from Vanilla M&B.

There's one more thing that this mod needs before it can really be great, and that's proper footwear. You can edit those, right?

I could help with Britons as well, in any event (I must have overlooked Segmenta while browsing, thought this mod would only have hamata and plumata, which were more common anyway). A lot of similar equipment was used by southern Britons (and they spoke the same continental Celtic language) as what was used by Gauls, as they were largely descended from La Tene era Gallic migrants, refugees from Gaul, and Belgae. The midlanders and further north spoke P-Celtic, the earliest forms of Cymric (Welsh). In the south, though, they had similar longswords as to what Gauls used, more similar shields, helmets, and had proliferated chain armor among aristocracy (by this time; if the Gauls were still around, mail was generally pretty rare in Britain). In the midlands and north though, armor was still a lot of scale (sometimes plated with bronze chits that would be stitched onto a boiled leather scale, sometimes just boiled leather alone), or padding or a leather vest with a bronze chestplate strapped on.

Anyway, sorry, that's a long tirade of no use at this time. Just pointing out I'd still be able to do pretty much the same thing even if the mod is historically accurate and set during the early introduction of segmenta (meaning much of southern Britain would be under control of the Catuvellauni, and those not under their direct control in the south were potentially vassals of sorts, since they used Catuvellauni coinage).
