Rocks (and maybe even Slings!) should be available weapons

Users who are viewing this thread

I'm currently playing a theme based on not killing where I only use blunt weapons - including on my troops and companions.

Looters unfortunately have non-blunt weapons, so I have no ranged options.

I do think it's slightly insane that hitting people in their heads with sledgehammers and spiked maces doesn't kill them... but that's besides the point.

It is just kind of odd that rocks are probably the most common weapon in the game on enemies due to looters being so plentiful, yet I as the player can't get them.

In the words of the great Twisted Sister: I WANNA ROCK

Slings are always a +1 for me. However, although the community has already taken the first steps by introducing this weapon in a WIP form; Taleworlds for their part seem reluctant to implement it or comment on whether they are developing it or not.

In my opinion, it would work amazing in both SP and MP complemented by the stone bags.

Agree, slings would be interesting addition to Bannerlord. Blunt ranged weapon. As a note, staff slings were already in Wiking Conquest.

I think some mercs have crossbows with blunt bolts.

Which troops have only blunt weapon? If i remember right all soldiers have some "deadly" weapon when I tried play as my slaver character.

I can already see the balance complaints! Instead of rock throwing bandits, killing machines with slings.

I am sold on the idea though.

Oh God. "Slings OP pls nerf"

Damn that's sexy. I love how they actually do the swing! We've gone a long way since Warband's slinging.

Slings were almost non-existent in Medieval Europe. I guess their place is in antique warfare mods only.

If you'll let me give you some advice, broaden your knowledge a little; you have a huge amount of documentation from specialised sources at your fingertips on the internet.

To give a few European examples in a quick way...

1000

France early 9th century
1000

Italy early 12th century
1000

England early 12th century
1000

Germany early 13th

And it doesn't stop there... you can find examples of the use of the slingshot and the fustibalo/fustibalus (staff sling) until practically the 17th century. Even in the Spanish Civil War and in other modern wars, slingshots were used to throw grenades at the enemy.

Ehmm, half of these depict the David vs Goliath biblical story.... The first one is from Stutgart Psalter (biblical image almanac basically).
The second picture is from The Madrid Skylitzes - an overview of Byzantine history up to X century.

So, none of these depict contemporary military practices. And, if you'll let me give you some advice, NEVER use medieval manuscripts and other images as a proof of some military practice. Because:
1. 99.99% of it was depicted/written by scholars (i.e. monks), NOT warriors.
2. These medieval pictures depict ALL KINDS OF WEIRD ****... even animals with weapons.

Bannerlord Calradia is set way earlier than the "medieval equivalent" era of Warband, so I wouldn't find slings so jarring, especially if it's only used by peasants and looters.

This works with hruza ( :iamamoron: ), not with me... don't pretend to troll a troll.
Have a nice day mate and if you want to learn more about the slingshot click here.

Well, if you wanted to giggle a little you should have just posted a couple of miniatures with rabbits, beating people with clubs and maces, maybe even the Rabbit of Caerbannog. You know, the funny stuff...

Sure, why not. They already have the armour-piercing heat seeking sabot stones of DOOM. Let's just give them slings, so they could mow heavy infantry from a safe distance

+1 for the Monty Python reference. On a more serious note, to relegate the sling to non-existence in that historical period is a bold move. As I said, there is a wealth of information on the net to go to if you are interested.

Slings totally shoul be in the game, make them a Throwing type weapon, give them stone, clay and lead ammo, and make Battanian Scirmishers and Wildlings into slingers, thus finally giving Battania a regular missile troops.

I win something right? It took less than 10 posts for this to come up!

I don't know if I should feel ashamed of myself or glad that you pulled it of!

I am not very knowledgable in that area but a simple search on their usage yields plenty results. For example, the Normans used it in the 11-12 century, etc.

so I have no ranged options.
in the game files there are tournament arrows and bolts that deal 0 blunt dmg, of course inaccessible without cheat but it should work with your play through without affecting anything

right now it would not be a good idea to introduce blunt projectiles. because the way speed multipliers work with damage types, blunt projectiles would actually be extremely op. i have this mod that allows me to make throwing hammers in addition to throwing axes. and those hammers on paper should do about 33% more damage than the axes. but in practice, they hit like trucks and 1 shot anyone for like 300-500 dmg. this is why the looters tiny pebbles still rock you with high armor, the blunt damage is mostly not absorbed by the armor.

Battanian Volunteers

( I didn't say it was a good idea, but still, these dudes are amazing for a basic unit )
