I dunno if this topic is really worthwhile but I found this somewhat freaky and amazing though I don't expect younger people will be that awed:

It was a robot on exhibit at the AKIBA Robot show. Their getting closer and closer to making them life like. Watch the hand movements towards the end its quite cool.

I was more impressed by a dancing one I saw, not that a robot dancing is all that special but the amount of balance and fluid motions it displayed was impressive.

The human dancers should not have danced so fast, it broke the robot's success.
I think they shouldn't try making human faced robots, because they never look quite realistic enough, and create sort of a creepiness. If they looked like boxes with wheels, you wouldn't compare them to anything you know. But if they have a nose, two strange eyes and a mouth, it will resemble a human (given it's on two legs and doesn't have hair all over it..), and will scare the **** out of people.

I agree. Sorry to break off on a tangent, but much like in lucid dreaming; why have sex with your illusion of a human when you can have sex with your illusion of anything.

To be fair, i think there's a huge different between "independent", fully walking robots, and stationary torso's like that.

Yeah. They look pretty and stuff, but they're programmed to do a couple movements and not to adapt.

I read about robots that invented a language. Scientists left two or three in a room, and had them being able of producing random noises and memorizing sounds, then linking those sounds to a context. Then the scientists gave them some events, such as throwing a ball in the room, etc... Well, the robots made a word for ball. Damn, I wish I could find that article...

Heh I can't help but think of a future were robots will inevitably replace women.

LOL in fact it would be quite hilarious (sad then Im sure) if real women become novelties.
