Lots of representations of Hood in literature/tv/film. I'm going to take the elements I like, and use them. For example, in the 2006 BBC adaptation (which was crap) they had Friar Tuck as a tall, black man who was very good at fighting. I liked that departure from the stereotype of the jolly fat man. When i put up tuck's bio, you'll se that in this mod he is more like the BBC's tuck than the legend's tuck.
Also, Saracen characters may turn up to an extent. THis is massively unlikely for the period, but if I think its good for the story, I'll do it- though not without explanation.
The game doesn't have fat people anyway. Just don't make him black too.

Why not? - Ha, there's no safe answer to this question....

I think that a black friar is highly unlikely in that age  :???:
A white, fat one, is not.

I cannot believe we're debating the ethnicity of friar tuck....
Ok- no intentions as yet for friar tuck to be black. Thought the way you guys are going on, I'm tempted to do it just to annoy you...
If it makes you feel better, his current face code is the same a Jeremus's as that's the companion i used as a base. (though he's way tougher in combat that Jeremus ever was)

I will put tuck's bio up soon (I need to do will scarlet's first, as you meet him before tuck)

Here's a quick update if anyone cares:

As far as companions are going, I've done the fight with LL Cool John (as he's known these days) on the bridge (see pretty screenies!).
This was more time consuming than you might think as I've been learning all about drawing a river in a scene.
I have another quest and a half to go before it's time to rescue will scarlet from his dungeon, and then the quest after the quest after that will be have Tuck joining you as a reward. (this is all rpvisional, I may change things)

In other news, I have got a map, on which every location is different to native, and I have effectively disabled kingdoms and native parties for the time being. (At the moment all you meet is looters) This makes it easier for me to work through the quests so far. I will make sure the map is nice and busy on release. There will be only be six towns- Nottingham, Derby, Sheffield, Lincoln, Leicester, and Stafford. They are geographically accurate as are the rivers. The forest will proabbly not be geographically accurate but then, we don't know how heavily forested central England was in 1192 anyway, so I am just going to make sure there are many, many trees.
Not all my bridges are in place but some are (important as LJ is met on a bridge)

Anyway, I'll keep working away....

i still like the black father tuck thingy. I know there werent much blacks back in those age, but that means they were more mysterious then white peeps. Not so much racisme back then, especially not between blacks and the normal people. Or so do the history books tell me. Never been there myself.

Just let robin take him from prison, like in one of the movies?

And whit many trees comes many lag??

Nope, surpisingly. Maybe my computer's just too good

No I haven't covered the entire map in trees. Also, the map is smaller than native- it's 200, 200 whereas I think Native is 280,280.
Trees are more a problem in scenes... I'm thinking I'll make smaller scenes to counteract this.

He isn't going to be rescued from prison, no. That's going to be reserved for Will Scarlet...

And Ye Gods! Am I really going to have to start an 'ethnicity of Friar Tuck' poll? Please god no!

In my case, yes.

lawl, you sound pretty racist yourself

 Blacks were animals back then, especially for the british. Some may have come back with Crusaders r something, bu they were probably locked in a cage and shown to a public, jeez.
We're talking MEDIEVAL here. Most people had never seen people of different colour. Of course they were racist.

Hmmm....
While the talk of racism in medieval britain is fascinating, I feel the discussion should move on. In fact, I feel this so strongly that I am going to go and design a face code for Friar Tuck RIGHT NOW and post it on my screenshots page.

Jesus Christ....

This Robin hood mod sounds....... ! AWESUM ! I like the whole stealth system, are you going to make a damage increase for killing when stealthed or are you still working it out?

Otherwise a fantastic idea, i like the sound of a black friar by the way... its different....... MyStErIoUs!!!

lol sorry about the blacks and normal people saying :p i didnt mean it like that :p.

let me know if there is gone be a alpha

Friar Tuck will not be having a tonsure, as it looks ****. Especially in mount and blade (apologies to anyone who actually has a tonsure. Each to his own...)
Not every priestly personage had a tonsure anyway...

I could quite easily make a damge increase ( as in +20 when stealthed) if people want it. On the other hand, the way i'm thinking at the moment is that you take your time and aim at the guy's head with your bow. This should be enough to kill anyone without a helmet.
I am alos considering nerfing the head armour offered by helmets. Particularly chainmail. As a great man once said: 'from the point of view of an arrow, chainmail is just a lot of holes looped together...'

More important for stealth is:

Narrowing the guard's view range.
(At the moment they see you if you're in front of them, no matter how far away you are. Have to modify distance between positions etc...)
Making guards killable when not alerted
(at the moment I switch them from no team to team 1. What I need to do is have them team 2 (neutral relation with team 0, and then switch them to team 1 from there when they are alerted.)
Preventing the guards from seeing you when there's a scene object in the way
(I think i'm going to assign a particular scene object (like the invisible barrier) to be my LOS blocker and then design my stealth scenes with lots of them following the path of the walls....)
Making guards patrol
(Currently, walkers are one of life's great mysteries to me. I need to play around with some code and get guards marching up and down corridors with happiness and joy.)
Making the player invisble when standing on a shadow (scene object shadow that is)
(Should be piss easy, but needs careful arrangement of the scene)

Other stuff- MAYBE but until the rest is done...
Crouching (needs an animation, which i'd have to beg off another mod)
Low obstacles (scene objects which hide you ONLY when your crouching behind them- easy once you have crouching)

Anyway, after all that ****e is ready, then maybe I'll think about damage bonuses...

hey it might be stolen from that fire arrow mod, but maybe u should do some things with fire, since in the funny movie of robin hood they complain that whenever there is a robin hood movie, their village gets burned :p

Well GOOD LUCK with that
