i might be pretty new to the forums but i have played quite a lot of mods already, this one took my interest i hope it can become something good. If i can help tell me :p

I just watched Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, it was pretty cool! This mod should be awesome like that, although I'm pretty sure the movie was nothing like the books.

Hah! just yesterday I was trying to make my character "Robin Hoodish" This sounds like a great mod, if only someone wanted to make Robins outfit with the cool hat, that would be great.

the books? what books?

I find it ridiculous when anyone talks about how a certain portrayal of robin hood was "inaccurate" or something. A lot of people accept the "Ivanhoe" representation as canon, but that was not even the same as the original tales. There have been so many representations of Robin Hood throughout the history of literature that to say that a certain representation or modern idea is "wrong".

Anyway, sorry for the rant, but I just had to get it out.

This mod sounds like it will be awesome. The stealth aspect sounds really cool and is something I've been thinking about doing (though I'm not exactly sure which module files to get started on).

Also, I would personally give Robin a longbow (or maybe a hunting or short bow), but that's just me. Basically I would give him a more English looking bow.

Good luck!

Yeah, you're joking. Or you're just retarded

'tis not historically accurate. But the setting may well be

With regards to the setting...

It'll be in 1193- and I put the year in the title because in December 1192 is when Richard I is captured by Duke Leopold. I am not going to be researching what people wore etc and the rest, because that's too much effort. However, i do want to capture the flavour of the time, yes.
Baron de Laci was not, as far as we know, the Sheriff during this time period, and the Sheriff was not necessarily the most powerful lord. Names of people will be historical in that I won;t just make them up, but I'm not going to research a massive list of lords. Not every name will have the right title.

Prince John did try and usurp the throne- to an extent. He certainly wanted it.
(I can't make him too evil, because Richard forgives him when he does eventually return.
There was a Norman/Saxon divide in England, the Normans were basically the nobility with a few exceptions
(Whether a character is Norman or Saxon is going to be a big deal. The Saxons are going to be oppressed)
Norman Barons were highly independant from the King and very powerful, thus one of them (the Sherriff) plotting with Prince John is plausible.

The Robin Hood stuff:

Hood probably did not exist. If he did exist, he was probably not a nobleman.
He may well have been a pagan deity who became a folk hero- there's a lot of pagan imagery in his Gest.
There were however outlaws who had a few hood-like antics.
So no, its not historically accurate in that way.

Oh, and some other ****e....

Lots of representations of Hood in literature/tv/film. I'm going to take the elements I like, and use them. For example, in the 2006 BBC adaptation (which was crap) they had Friar Tuck as a tall, black man who was very good at fighting. I liked that departure from the stereotype of the jolly fat man. When i put up tuck's bio, you'll se that in this mod he is more like the BBC's tuck than the legend's tuck.
Also, Saracen characters may turn up to an extent. THis is massively unlikely for the period, but if I think its good for the story, I'll do it- though not without explanation.

Suggestions ( like that one about the bow earlier) are welcome. But in the end I'll make how I want....

And Prince of Thieves was a bollocks film. I hope this new Russel Crowe one is better....

Why don't you do see some tutorials on modelling, if you have so much time? Or get into coding. I wish i had your time

And robin hood was a tree-huggin hippie too. He called all his friends and they all got into the trees and lived there for a while, to protest against high tax prices.
I tried but i didn't find Wing3d

Hi, I think i saw a post by you, were you wanted to do a mexican revolution theme. Im gessing you are mexican like me, this weekend i will be startin to learn to mod, if you are interested we can talk about a project

there was a beautiful series of Robin of Sherwood in 80's.For me ,only good film about Robin Hood

Was that the one with Ray Winestone as a dark, cockney Will Scarlet? It was bit fantasy though, wasn't it?

Indeed I'm Mexican
And a Mexican revolution theme would be interesting, PM me. I always wanted to say that.

BTW i got a question so i suppose the player is going to be Robin Hood...isn't it???
Well if the answer is yes. Then the main gameplay is going to be like Vanilla?? I mean walking around whit a huge army figthing against the enemy ??

Main player is going to be Robin Hood, yes.
As for the gameplay....
Well it will be different from the Vanilla game in that the player will have a much, much smaller force- you'll have to sneak past the bigger enemy forces on the map and ambush the smaller ones. I'm planning some major exceptions to this though- which i won't go into in detail about. Also, as the focus is on quests, there'll be a lot more happening in scenes. For example in the first quest you fight off a horde of soldiers in a castle hallway, get slung into prison, defeat the jailor with your fists, escape, sneak into the town to get your equipment back, and then sneak out of the town gate. Finally, you face off against a tough enemy knight before fleeing into the wilderness. I am trying to find new ways to throw the player into battle- beyond the standard native siege/encounter thing. Also, as I;ve mentioned, this is massively quest/story driven so anything could happen....

Hope that answers your question.

Believe it or not, Robin Hood did somewhat likely exist, its not just an old fairy tale.

Um, actually there's a big debate about that. The earliest factual references to a guy named Robin Hood are of dubious quality. In the 1400s a load of people took that name when they went outlawed, but it was common for outlaws to call themselves after folk-heroes or fairy tales. e.g. Blubeard and 'the King and Queen of the Fairies.' In the ballards Robin does some fairly folklorish stunts- which suggest older stories attatched to his name.

Point being, people called Robin Hood existed. If any of them were noble outlaws robbing the rich to feed the poor is more debatable. The eixstence of a 'real', 'original' Robin Hood is severely in doubt.... though it would be cool if he had existed.

Check out the wikipedia entry if you're interested. Its quite good- also there's a few copies of the orignal ballards floating around the net.... when the mod is done, I might replace the hints on the loading screens with verses from them- be warned, they are in saxon-english....
