For future releases, the ability to add triggers to change terrain would be unique. The idea would be that the party when setting up camp would be able to lay and remove markers, and when moving to a town would be able to order work teams to change the terrain in that area.

E.g. there is an annoying stretch of forest, so why not clearcut it? The player party would lay X number of points, then go to a town he owns then select "Commission Work Team" and say "Clear Terrain", select the number of points, the points in question, then over time the forest would be turned to grassland. Or "Build Road" would allow road to be built between point A and B. Or "Demolish Wall" would demolish a wall in question.

Not right now, though I hope they do by 1.0. Since forests are designated as "slow-down" locations, shouldn't it be possible for roads to be designated as "speed-up" locations?
 
This was the intent of terraforming, that by building roads to maximize transfer of troops and resources from town a to town b, one could add an element of empire-building to the whole affair.
 
The idea of making roads useful has been talked about many times (and is something I agree with) though I am against cutting away forests and so forth. The map is bland enough as it is without the removal of even more terrain.

All this suggestion indicates to me you've played other games with these features ie. Settlers.  MaB roads have little impact to gameplay at this point, but perhaps will have these features in the future as more content is added.

Not bad idea, but needs more details.  Btw, terraforming refers more to make a liveable planet from a hostile planet in stages.

We could use roadblocks and chokepoints for strategic purposes.

I pretty much grew up on Civilization II as a kid, so road/fort building was a major component of the day. Demolishing bridges would be a useful aspect as well as road-building, if only for denying enemy movement into your kingdom.
