Good idea! That way it is possible to increase the number of types of quests. A merchant may ask you to escort -or actually travel on- a commercial boat to protect goods and passengers. I loved this idea!!
In the current situation the river is there -i believe- to avoid you from travelling from zendar to tihr very easily. Otherwise one would follow this path without getting involved in the battles that take place very frequently in the vicinity of the source of the river.
By the way, it is yet another discussion why the river suddenly appears in the middle of a valley Isn't it supposed to come out of mountain foot???
Personally, the only thing I would really like seeing, is deep water on battlefield. Ie. deep enough for yourself, your horse and your enemies to swim, and drown in (if you 'forget' to take off your armor before diving in, or your hard-working horse suddenly gets shot while carrying you and your fat armor across a deep river :)
oh yes! instakill when falling off a bridge i can see my army of several dozens of knights going for a dive when trying to cross it ^^
somehow, i don't think this can be implemented as it would add additional power to archers, besides, i don't like battles where you gotta stand still and wait for the enemy to make a mistake.
this game was pure action until now, and this it should remain imho
Sure but think how a wall of Dark Knights would just plow right through any opposing force at a bridge. It would be a two-edged sword. And if the AI can handle horse archers there, then they too can be a real pain as they bolt in and out of effective archery range to kill your infantry and archers.
And imagine you yourself standing ready to recieve the enemy. It would ben unending melee on the bridge as the enemy swarmed you.

I find it annoying not challenging TBH. It makes less work to choose Vaegir than Swadian just to avoid the bloody river!. Im playing my first Swadian character, and Im just ignoring Tihr where possible. Why shouldnt Wercheg have an obstacle as well? Give the Swadians a bridge or give them death.
I think that as a general part of any siege upgrade to the game that river bridges and defensive towers/structures would be an awesome addition. If it's forseen that we can alter the terrain by building structures (fortified camps through to small castles - for a price of course) it would be awesome to locate defensive structures at choke points like the headwaters of the river above Z. It could even be a quest or directive of your lord... forgive me if it's already in game, I've only gotten to lvl 15.
But what I intend is for them to be destructable as well.
Many's the time I've had to run for town to escape certain defeat; but I'd run alot less if I could stand them off on a bridge or from inside a tower.
Of course, without siege gear it would be more of an exploit than good gameplay, so I'd like to see this enhancement come with siege!

Just clam down, I'm sure armagan will think about it before M&B1.0 is released. For the time being I try to convince myself that everything in the game either has a purpose or is to construct the basis of something else. Perhaps I should find myself a nick like "optiboy" or something. But it makes me more patient...
Not sure if this is on the same topic or not, but next time you play, go past Sargoth to the edge of the map, in the corner... There is a river that blocks off that side of the map. Now, look closely where the river intersects the ocean... the graphic changes... not the river, not the ocean, but some blue thing with lines in it. Could this be the location of a bridge that takes you to another map area? I mean, there is snow over there, a mountain too... wonder what else?
