Riding into battle with my wife... how cool is that?!?!

Managed to climb the ranks in Swadia's nobility and married Lady Thedosa (Swadia).  As a maiden, she loved to ride and hunt so I decided to have her join my retinue.  Actually got her trained and leveled up and she's a pretty good fighter with good beginning stats in archery and riding.  Not sure if it was a random thing or if the maidens' stats reflect their temperament (i.e. "wishes she were a man", "romantic", "ambitious", etc).  Anyway, she's now riding around with my company of 80 Swadian knights and going into battle with us.  Since I can't give her gifts, I got her kitted out with a Heavy Sarranian War Horse, Elite Mamluke armour, and "Lordly" everything else except I didn't give her a helmet so that I can see her cute face.   BTW, those Heavy Sarranian War Horses are like freaking tanks with 61 armor and serious charge damage.  I am having so much fun.  Nothing like "take your wife to work" week.

Edit: She's quite a sharpshooter with that bow; she's extremely good at picking off defenders during siege battles!

Hi Josie.  I'm running the Diplomacy Mod.  But I thought you can also do the same in the Native setting?  Anyway, after getting married, you get an option when you talk to your wife to have her join you.  I'm not sure if the option is there for a female player character with a male spouse.  A funny thing happened when I signed up for a tournament; you know how companions are automatically entered....well, she was in it and I got to knock her out in the finals.  It was either me or her.  Next time, I'll let her win.
Edit:  I decided to give her her own personal body guard of 20 Sword Sisters by grouping them together and delaying their charge until I've taken out serious threats like Rhodok Seargents.  Gotta protect the wife.

That's why it's worth chatting to the Wandering Poet's in the tavern, each one will tell you about differant ladies for each faction, He will also tell you about there personalities...ect.

Wandering Ashik Sarranid Sultanate/Khergit Khanate
Wandering Bard Kingdom of Swadia/Kingdom of Vaegirs/Kingdom of Rhodoks
Wandering Troubadour Kingdom of Swadia/Kingdom of Vaegirs/Kingdom of Rhodoks

Hmm, I play so few male characters, I forgot that Diplomacy had that option!  That's funny about the tournaments!

Husbands cannot be companions, as far as I know, but they're lords, so you can still follow them around in the field (or have them follow you).  And of course, at a general feast, they can end up pitted against you in tournaments as well!

As an aside regarding courtship, I noticed an interesting tidbit.....  With regards to maidens who are "romantic....trouble for their families" I found that if I got permission from the brother or father before initiating the courtship by proclaiming to the intended that "I am your most ardent admirer", the maiden turns a cold shoulder and I invariably get a "Now if you will excuse me..." plus a negative hit right away.  What works is to be brazen and to talk to her BEFORE getting permission.  However, I make absolutely sure that the father/brother is at least a 10+ before doing anything.  Anyway, if I do it this way I get a fast 20+ relationship with the maiden when I first declare and she is ready to get married after the first poem (usually 30+ if I also throw in a recent tournament win dedication).  So it is most definitely worth it to visit and talk to wandering bards in each faction and milk them for all information regarding all of the maidens in that particular faction.

Ladies don't like it when you automatically assume you can get them before you proclaim being their admirer and I found it funny that the option to bring your wife into battle was quite interesting but I kinda got a little jittery about it and I'd feel like such a arse if I had been defeated and they took my wife I'd flip lol. So I decided to let her fight her battles in the kitchen *Sarcasm* she just became my minister of my kingdom which made me feel MUCH better about not letting her join which she actually brought up in a conversation *Damn you diplomacy* which detered a few points in the relationship good thing I have a relation of 68 before I married

 Yeah, that would take a lot of explaining to your in-laws.... "My wife? Well...uh.....you see, it was like this..." But seriously, any pre-courtship strategy is going to be dictated by the maiden's personality.  I've said a simple hello to some maidens and had gotten the brush off immediately: "Now, if you'll excuse me..." (High morals and difficult to please) whereas some are willing to talk to me during feasts: "We've had the pleasure of watching you win the tournament" or something like that.
I've never had the wife complain that I don't take her along but then again I keep a close eye on the courtship relationship timer (days since last visit) and I try to visit her before the 7 seven days are up even after we are married along with dedicating a tournament win.  What I did find is that when my wife is my minister, I won't get the "My lady, I would like to dedicate my latest tournament win to you..." option in the dialogue box. Not sure why that is.  But just like in real life, you can't just ignore your wife.

Hmm, obviously they've added a bunch of new features to Diplomacy, as I can't remember my last male character losing relation with his wife after they were married.  Since I refuse to update the base game past 1.134, I guess I'll never get to see those features.

The wife caught sneking back into the Castle as soon as darkness fall's, making me suspicious ...

Is there a specific reason? Should I do it aswell?

I didn't update because I didn't like the changes that 1.143 made to the economic aspects of WB.  Then, when 1.153(?) came out, there were many problems with bugs that took a long time for the devs to resolve.  In fact, I'm not sure the devs have fixed the one where factions refuse to die (although the Diplomacy mod does fix this, I hear).

At any rate, I had a stable build with a good combination of mods and all the features I needed to enjoy the game with 1.134, so I just kept it.  I suppose if I ever pluck up the courage to try Prophesy of Pendor, I'll have to update, but until then, I'm perfectly satisfied with my set-up as it is.

Guys I copied you and had a really tanky wife, but she was captured in a battle with me (I have it in realistic). So now I cant find my spouse, she is in my court because she is also my minister, but I think is a bit mad of getting captured and when I talk to her she tells me"Surrender or die, make your choice" and I answer " I am not afraid of you, I will fight you" and the conversation ends there... hahaha I think my spouse hates me

That same dynamic also happens when you try and rescue a lord from prison.  It's a bug.  Close and restart Warband.  Load saved game.  If it still happens the save is corrupted.
