Revitalizing Bannerlord Multiplayer: Strategies for Renewed Engagement

Users who are viewing this thread

The primary purpose of this suggestion is to address and resolve backend issues causing server crashes in Bannerlord's multiplayer mode. By fixing these critical issues, we aim to establish a stable and reliable multiplayer environment. This stable environment will not only enhance the current player experience but also pave the way for the development of a potential competitive scene within the game.

Current Situation

  • Currently, Bannerlord’s multiplayer experience is hindered by frequent server crashes and instability. These issues detract from the overall enjoyment and reliability of the game.
  • Key challenges include frequent disconnections, lag, and inconsistent server performance, which undermine the gameplay experience and hinder the establishment of a competitive multiplayer scene.
Proposed Suggestions

  • Backend Infrastructure Overhaul
    • Description: Upgrading the Infrastructure for the backend of the master servers, as well as Taleworlds hosted Mount and Blade servers.
    • Benefits: Better multiplayer experience, Consistent player-base, lays a foundation for a competitive scene as originally intended.
    • Implementation Steps: There is a phrase in IT and Programming "start where you are" take the current system that you have and work upon it, even if that means redoing some of the overall backend for the greater future that lies ahead. During this process it is crucial that Taleworlds be absolutely in touch with the community, make polls every day and testing on a Beta Branch before continuing further we call this "Progress iteratively with feedback". During the previous phase once again it is crucial that Tale Worlds be open and transparent with the ongoing development as they possibly can, there are a lot of programmers in the community that would love to help make the game we all love even better.
      • Competitive Scene
        • Description: A cohesive competitive scene for Bannerlord, adding player skins that can be purchased as well as a pick-ban system for maps and factions.
        • Benefits: Consistent player-base, potential room for monetization on character skins.
Expected Outcomes
  • Impact: The overall postiive impact to the community would greatly benefit the player base as well as Taleworlds themselves. Taleworlds would take the entire medieval combat industry by storm, this game is extremely unique in its design as well as its multiplayer scene, there are problems that need to be addressed and with the right about of work all of these things could greatly benefit Taleworlds and grow them into a titan of industry for the gaming community. In terms of the player base you're talking about a low amount of complaints and a large mass who swear by the game and the developers. I know many have lost faith in your company unfortunately due to these long outstanding issues, you are bound for a comeback story.
Potential Challenges
  • Risks: Further downtimes, delaying projects on single player content, delayed DLCs.
  • Mitigation: Display the overall roadman, sympathize with the community, and host town hall style meetings with the community to address concerns.
Conclusion
In summary, addressing the backend issues causing server crashes and instability in Bannerlord's multiplayer mode is crucial for revitalizing the game’s experience and establishing a thriving competitive scene. By overhauling the backend infrastructure and introducing a structured approach to developing a competitive environment, we can significantly enhance gameplay stability and player satisfaction.
The proposed improvements, including infrastructure upgrades and the establishment of a competitive framework, are designed to not only resolve existing issues but also to lay the groundwork for long-term success. Engaging with the community through iterative feedback and transparent development practices will ensure that these changes are well-received and effective.
Despite potential challenges, such as delays and the risk of further downtimes, a proactive approach to communication and community involvement will help mitigate these risks. By demonstrating commitment to addressing player concerns and maintaining an open dialogue, Taleworlds can rebuild trust and capitalize on the game’s unique strengths.
Overall, with dedicated efforts and strategic implementation, Bannerlord has the potential to reinvigorate its multiplayer scene and emerge as a leader in the medieval combat genre. This comprehensive approach will not only benefit the current player base but also attract new players, positioning Taleworlds as a prominent force in the gaming industry.

glad people keep invested in the community and the game, posting ways to improve their experience.

but I honestly haven't experienced those problems in more than a year hell almost 2 years, I keep playing every week in Team Deathmatch and Siege, no lag or crashes

perhaps skirmish and captain keep crashing?

At this point, I think the only thing we can expect moving forward is likely a Termination of Service announcement early to mid 2025, followed by a grace period to continue playing until shutdown. Seems like any attempts to fix the server issues break things further, and all the imbalances between factions and units are intentional.

Nah, some people are still playing and you know they have like 2 or 3 servers running and not much else lmfao, I don't expect them to be THAT greedy

I mean, MP games typically hover around the high single digits to low 10s, occaisionally peaking at the mid-20s. As i've mentioned in other threads, most of the people still sticking around really only do so to flex how loyal they are to Steam, rather than having any genuine investment to what Mount&Blade offers as a multiplayer game.

Completly delusional. EU is alive and, for Bannerlord standards, well.

Inappropriate behavior
i think a termination of service notice would honestly be on brand - snip -. unlikely but 100% something this - snip - company would do.

Warband hasn't had a termination of service and it's older and less population.
And just today the BRE event had 500 people.

Dont listen to Flashnoob all he does is complain about how bad the empire recruit is Even tho its the only recruit with darts
So how's having a peak population of 6 players in the past two days working for you?

I don't think anyone wants to stick around just to play a weak unit who's sole purpose is to hand out free kills to the enemy team while their opponents have much stronger starting units.
