Retarded marshals

im working as a merc to lithuania and i found marshals to be really stupid- when enemy is besieging our castle i want to ask our marshal with his lords to help defend that castle he always says something like "i have my own business to do". even if he does somehow get close to besieged castle he never moves to help the garrison. only way to defend those castles is to try to do it all by myself or to manually find some lords who would help me to retake captured castle. since we're fighting on 2 fronts i always find myself running around and saving those damn castles because marshal is too retarded to do it by himself...

do not worry, you are not alone, and i believe its the same problem in vanilla too. the only thing you can do about it, is to just dont care. its always easier to retake a lost village, as to defend it.

Same here, marshals like hey lets take Bristol, 1500 men should be enough, oh wait lets go have a feast in my castle just as I finish my siege tower...

LOL

I had the same problem too and wanted to be marshall badly. I had no chance as the marshall didnt get stripped of the title so I went up to the Chancelor and send message to all of the English vassals to 'join me in the field' I knew I'd get alot of negative responses but also alot of positive ones too. Half of them were with me while I managed to Terrorise France by taking Paris, Boulogn and Chantos (incorrect spelling ) one after the other. The bad thing is that almost after every castle/town taken some of the vassals leave to recruit more soldiers OR join the ignorant Marshall taking trips back and forth doing nothing. Its hard work but worth it

try to play with "good campaign Ai", i dont have any problems with my marshalls... allways after a siege message most of my Lords running to the castle and defend there....

i always play with full damage to me and my troops, good campaign and battle AI etc, doesnt work. see, marshal is always trying to take the most distant and easy to retake castle- now we are at war w/ Poland, at the beginning of game they were successful at war w/ Volynha, so now they hold city of Halych. of course instead of taking Liublin or other close castle, our marshal decides to take Halych- one side travel takes ~2 days. as i said we're fighting on 2 fronts now, so when our full army is traveling to Halych, Sweden's army of ~800 people decides to attack city of Hrodna. and guess what, city has only 80 men in garrison... so when our army takes Halych and returns to Lithuania, whole Sweden's army is back to Sweden, at least 3 villages are looted and city is taken.

besides retarded marshals game has one more huge nonsense- when the castle is taken it only has ~100 soldiers. it means that the next day enemy will easily retake that castle. my suggestion- taken castle should be immediately garrisoned with at least 150 men, when king decides who should get it as a fief, garrison should instantly grow to 300 men and in a few days troop count should grow up to 400 and stop rising. this would prevent constant retaking of castles- if i manage to repel enemy once i would be calm as i know that castle will get a proper protection in a few days

how do you get the vassals to join you at a siege? if i lay siege to a town, they are with me (around the town), but not in the actual battle which follows.

say what?

I'd say the opposite.. you get villagers helping you to defend.. they can make a difference in the early game + if you successfully defend the enemy is dead, if you retake it afterwards when the enemy is gone the enemy still has his man.

sometimes they dont but mostly do.... dont attack unless you know 'Lord X joins battle on your side'
the majority of the time they dont join is they're either not as close or change of plan and tend to go elsewhere...
avoid night battles as the sight gets smaller and it could affect them joining

yes i know how to use the 'Lord X joins battle on your side' thing  but does this actually work on sieges? i think not, or im doing it wrong...

@LordProtector

you dont get villagers on your side at sieges, only at raids.

Damn, why my marshall always seeking for war?

I'm working as a merc to England, but the marshall (Mr.Prince Bishop Durham) just finished fighting against Scotland for only 1 or 2 in game hour, yet he starting the war with france as soon as Scotland was defeated.

I need sometime to heal and getting more man too, you know?

so far i know, there is a random war declare, if ur are not in war... i have the problem often,too...  have my own kingdom, have a good relation to Crusaders or HRR , and then?  boom, wardec to my friends, and this wasnt me... its random

Indeed MArshall and Lords are really retarded, as someone said above, you decide to besiege a castle, you finish your ladder and they just go away for no reason.
Then you're on your own... it happens so many times

depends mainly on the personality of the lords ,and how long the campaign allready goes...  if they money went under 1800 denars, lords decide to plunder villages or collect tax, instead of follow the marschall....
use a lord with a good-natured personality, then most of ur lords will follow, and good-natured lord mainly tends to target a castle at first, instead to plunder a village with 1500 ppl. like a sadistic or pitiless lord as marshall would do....

btw.. if u play with "good campaign ai",  the lords are sticking more together and helping eachother than they do it with "poor campaign ai" . maybe its harder to play so, coz lord have more quality troops and recruit more faster, but i like the challenge
