Request: More Scene Props

Hi I think it would be great to have more 'props' to build scenes in the edit mode. Things such as more types of houses, other types of battlements, more, different tables, chairs, wells, castle gates, carpets, lights (chandeliers), tapestries, etc.

Without them it's very difficult to make scenes that look different and original.

If I had the time to make them I would. I don't know about texturing but if I did it I'd start by looking at objects/items from other games like Morrowind. I don't know if it's legal to transfer them (if they're not from a mod) or if they can be transfered but that sounds like the easiest way to do it.

Actually, its a good idea, for beginner modders and modelers to work on props, and contribute those... I might do a few since im pretty new to 3d modelling myself... Ihavent even used edit mode yet.. lol

maybe your new...but your good...I just tried out wings3d, how can you make such a weapon with that really...all i succeeded in where some cubes and stuff, how do you draw lines and stuff  ??

edit: sorry shouldve read yoshis post

i'm not sure to what degree this is possible atm. The unwraps could take up alot of texture space and soon all your avaliable files would be used up. it would be easier to wait for new material support.

Would it be possible to just copy (or convert?) object files from say Morrowind? Or are they a different format?

I think for many props such as tables and chairs the same textures could be used and mapped on. You know, find the .dds with the most appropriate materials already in place and map them on to the best of your ability - generic wood for example which is already in those .dds files somewhere. It wouldn't look as good as a nice custom texture for each model, but it would do the trick. These aren't props for the Hi Def pack afterall.

Yes, you could easily make buildings with the existing M&B textures... they'd fit better in the M&B theme as well that way.

I know Armagan mention that their team might be/is expanding so this may not be useful - but...

While I think the mods are very cool - it seems to be that a community effort to help make the game as complete as polished as possible would be cool.

Armagan has his hands full with programming and his wife creating plot driven art etc.

It seems to me that if there were an upload script and a release form that the community could build props they would "hope" to see in the final game and have their name in lights (credits).

I know legal problems are a concern - but in the past I've have donated work and just had a release form on the artwork.

Just a thought. Again mods are cool but it seems that helping to create a polished detailed game would help Armagan and his team put his efforts somewhere other than a chair.

I don't see why not. Export them from Morrowind, fix scaling, textures, etc. then export the worked mesh to OBJ, import into M&B.

OK cool. I can do that. Now is it legal? I know objects from Morrowind Mods are legal, what about objects from the original (vanilla) Morrowind?

No, unfortunately that would not be legal sheek. Unless something is different about that game, since it's generally not legal to use a game's art/music/sound for other things. Even the objects from Morrowind mods I would ask the respective authors permission to use before doing so.

Morrowind is a bit like open source...so i think it would...and in the other case, if you change a little bit...no1 knows

Lol.

I'm going to try importing some building meshes from Morrowind. So far the BRFView crashes each time I try to load up. First of all I'll see if it works before considering legality. I know that for me it's completely legal, I own both Morrowind and M&B. If I put it in a mod maybe I'll create a quiz of Morrowind questions before you can download it.

Well, Armagan added in some new scene props with the new version (.710), including some new towers, buildings, and stairs, among other things. A lot of these props were used in the new version of Dhorak Keep, which doesn't appear to use any static mesh (unlike Zendar town center or the arena, which do).

Cool stuff.

As to legal stuff with Morrowind, I don't think you could use the models from Morrowind in a mod you create for distrubution with out writen concent from the owner of said material, even if you are not selling it.

you COULD use material of morowind mods for sure, if you give the people who made them credits...

I myself am no man of legality to the top, no1 will mention it when you imported stuff and if they find out, you could always say you didnt know and will remove them.

No problems, right?
