(Bloody tasteless Gondorians; everyone knows that the Rohirrim are the snappiest dressers in Middle Earth.)

That is the helm of King Elendil, this is the helm that the soldiers riding with Faramir wore, and this was the helm that Pippin wore as a Guard of the Citadel, and I can't find a picture of the big feathered helmets that the guardians of the white tree wore. So there are a few different helmets that a modder could choose from.

The gondorian armour in the film rules, in fact the gondorian culture and background rule, it remainds me in a way of how Tolkien so cleverly incorporated different aspects of England and its historyinto the Cultures of Lord of the Rings. It is after all the only piece of English Mythology that was his aim and why can't we have our own Mytholgical stories.

Tolkien got lots of ideas from norse/german saga's tough.

He kind of stole things from die niebelungen, Beowulf and others. and he became rich and famous while hardly annyone knows those stories/myths wich is a shame really. when I go to a bookstore It's filled with LOTR stuff but when I ask for a book on Beowulf or die niebelungen or other myths, The employees don't know what I'm talking about. It pisses me off

I've read both the Nibelungen saga and Beowulf; they're terrific works of literature (and EXTREMELY well known. I don't know who you've been talking to, but those two in particular are famous around the world), yes, but you either weren't paying much attention when you were reading them (or LotR, for that matter), or you're just going by what you've heard of other peoples' generic complaints about Tolkien.

Any similarities between Lord of the Rings and those ancient stories are universal themes that have been passed down throughout the world through storytelling since the beginning of the spoken word. Magic rings, for example. The Norse were definately not the first, nor were they the last, to use this concept.

We could go further back. For example, the Norse's "Ourubouros" is a symbol that was taken from pre-Hindu India. And even they were not the first to consider a snake coiled in a circle, biting its own tail.

Temujin, if you considered it necessary to bring up Norse/German lore in a thread about models for Gondorian helmets, then you must really have something important to say. Come on, tell me some specific examples where Tolkien "stole" ideas from these works of literature you're having so much trouble finding in a bookstore.

I think its logical that tolkien relied on other northern mythologies as a guide seeing as he had studied them and considered himself to be sort of creating an anglo-saxon mythology. He felt that the norman invasions destroyed britains mythological traditions and replaced them with alien french models like Arthur and the Knights.

Exactly, Ancient. Tolkien may have been trying to create an ideal Britain, especially the example of the Rohirrim. If the British had had a cavalry at the time of the Norman invasion, like the French, they might have been victorious.

Tolkien didn't "rip-off" Norse culture. He may have borrowed names like "dwarves" and "elves," but these characters in his books do not even vaguely resemble their Nordic predecessors.
