Are there any real tangible benefits from increasing your reputation other than being an all around good guy?

There is.. People generally like good guys.. except the bad guys.. they like bad guys.

For example : negative reputation => enabled trade in bandit lairs
positive repution => certain lords higher relation

There is probably more.. for example. when I had a negative reputation for a little while, I actually got a request from a bandit group to join me (out of nowhere)
