What consequences are there for switching sides?

Also in what circumstances?

I plan on working for several of the factions. Usually I just contact the king and get him to release me from my oaths to him.
if I do this several times will it impact my standings or only if I denounce the king I leave?

im thinking about that also, but i dont want to lose all my fiefs, so i never did it

i guess relation with kingdom goes down and relation with king

Your relation with the current faction is reset to 0. Your relation with the King of that faction is reduced by 20. I don't know what happens if you do it multiple times, but I'd imagine it's the same. And as previously mentioned, you lose all your fiefs.

If your relation with the faction and the king himself is good I don't see why he wouldn't. But like I said, I have no proof.

Yeah on one of  my old files I broke away from King Harlaus, and made my own kingdom. A few weeks later I was getting the **** kicked out of me, so I rode up to Harlaus and asked to be his vassal and he replied something like, "Sorry, I only give vassalage to those who I can trust" or something.

Maybe so. I think when I tried to become his vassal again he had something like a -15 relation towards me.
Or it might have been that I was a king, but he didn't say anything about that.

A king will not give you vassalage if you have negative relationship whit him. Do a few tasks for him and he will accept you again

Yeah, you'll definitely need positive relation. There's an option with your minister to apply for vassalage so unless there's a bug it's possible.

I was able to swear myself into the vassalage of Sultan Hakim after my upstart nation was crushed by the Khanate, so I can confirm that you being king of your own faction does not affect your chances of becoming a vassal.

Hehe. He will, actually.
King Yaroglek couldn't live without me obviously. I released myself vom vassalage and a few days later I got a message from King Yaroglek "would you like to become my vasall?" (without asking him). After declining this one my standings with him decreased again and he didn't ask again.
My standings with him were 20+ after releasing.
