Repeating crossbow

Those of you who have played d20 system Dungeons and Dragons may be familiar with the repeating crossbow - it is a heavy crossbow with a clip that holds five bolts on the top, that fires in three bolt spurts. Is it possible to make the equivalent in M&B? NB: Without reloading between bolts, just like three bolts fired in quick succession ... ?

In th epirates mod, a certian gun can shoot 3 shots before reloading. And since guns replace crossbows, I assume it can be done. I just don't know how.

i think pug meant to have three bolts fired at a time, unless im confused by his wording.

as of now you cant make crossbows or anything fire very rapidly with any accuracy.

You could set the crossbow's quantity to 5 (would mean it could fire 5 times before a reload) and the speed high, but unless you took time between shots to aim it would just shoot wildly inaccurate shots all over the place.

I posted in the "Props, weapons, armor: make a request" thread about making a chinese repeating crossbow, but apparently nobody even noticed the comment or the links to images of them since not one reply was made on it haha. I might wind up trying to make one myself with my newfound modeling skills

That'd be a shotbow.
Repeating crossbows, like the chu-ko-nu, had a clip size of about five, and could shoot one bolt per second. I think.

according to this it holds 10 bolts and shoots about two per second up to 50-75 yards, but wasnt as accurate as a standard crossbow. Not sure if thats 100% accurate, just the first thing that popped up in a google hehe.

Also this has alot of info about how it actually functions, with black and white illustrations of the mechanism.

Interesting stuff.

The stuff about old time weapons that you learn in Age of Empires II. Cho-Ko-Nu's are fairly good units in the game too.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but these guys don't have anywhere near the power of a European Xbow.

Yeah they dont pack the punch of a european one. As far as I know the heavier single shot crossbows could fire like 300 yards (not accurate at that range though), while the repeating one was only like 50-75 yards according to that page (again im not sure if its totally accurate hehe). Plus you actually took time to aim the single shot crossbows, the repeating one you just point in general direction and loose bolts like a madman lol. The pound force of the bow on it obviously couldnt be nearly that of the single shot crossbow, since it would have to be able to be drawn back and loosed without bracing it against something, and ofcourse easy enough to be able to fire that rapidly.

Different tactics really. The single shot crossbows would fire slowly but more accurate and farther, while the repeating crossbows would fire at an incredible rate but wouldnt have the range or the accuracy.

This could be simulated in M&B by making the repeating crossbow have a lower accuracy, higher firing speed, lower velocity, quantity of 10, and reload like a pistol (the real one could easily be reloaded on the run im sure, I mean all you do is drop more bolts in the top).

I had some stats (not sure how accurate that they were) on the amount of pull, and the difference was tremendous. But if you hink about it, it makes sense. The repeater is using some sort of mechanism to reload itself, while the heavy crossbows required a goats foot to load.

I read through the articles you guys posted links to, and it is quite fascinating - simple, but ingenious. Especially the one that fired two bolts at the same time! I believe this is an official repeating crossbow, but it would be cool if you didn't have to pump the lever thingy everytime you fired - otherwise it's just a crossbow with a quicker reload time. Still, quite intriguing. I might just do some tinkering...
