Renaissance mod

Now I know that at this point the unofficial modding community is unable to make custom animations. But I heard somewhere that there is an animation editor in the works, so heres an idea:
Modify an animation for Italian rapier fencing (fencing using line geometry, if you don't understand, don't worry.) Spanish rapier fencing (fencing using circular geometry, again don't worry if you don't get it), and musket firing and reloading. Mod some models for Renaissance clothing as well as rapiers, late broadswords and even smallswords if you want as well as muskets. Modify a map of mainland europe (france, spane, italy etc.). Go crazy with swashbuckling and dueling. This to me would make a very interesting new experience for M&B, because not only could you have the larger, military engagements from M&B (except with musket/ military sword weilding soldiers) but you could also include an arena type system for professional and personal duels. I know it would take a lot of work, but I think we have some pretty talented modders in our midst *cough* GandalftheGrey *cough* Ancientwalker *cough* *cough*. What do you all think?

My renaissance mod thread is still on the front page :???:

He/she was asking for new animations for different kinds of Renaissance weapons not just Renaissance weapons.

Though I must say I love slicing through Vaegir War Parties with my balanced Flamberge.

I'm planning to make a full on renaissance mod later on, but doing items first so people can have fun with them now. I doubt I'll be putting in fencing though, as even when duels were fought to the death it was a very different form of fighting to battlefield swordsmanship. However, if someone else wants to do a fencing tournament addon I'd be happy to combine it with my renaissance mod.

I've looked at your mod and it is pretty interesting. But where are the rapiers? The quintessential renaissance civilian weapon is, in my opinion, much more essential than the rare, probobly strictly ceremonial, flamberge. (even though they do look awesome, great job by the way.) I know the reason they aren't included is probobly the lack of a finessed thrusting animation, plus the stance is all wrong for rapierplay. I know that fencing was very different, which is why it will be so hard. The movements are quite simple, though, and could be very fun to play around with.

When I was starting out I did look into rapiers, but the quintessential civilian weapon is a bit out of place on a battlefield. Rapiers had very light blades which were excellent for unarmoured combat against a small number of oponents, but when you need to hit solid steel armor with one for hours the risk of breaking it becomes pretty big. Fencing style combat is also quite inapropriate for massed battles. However, my current (unreleased, it doesn't work particularly well at the moment) version has several variants of Estock, which were essentially heavier, battlefield suitable versions of the rapier. I'd be more than willing to do models and animations for fencing, but setting up new dialogue and arenas for fencing tournament sidequests in my mod would be a bit beyond the scope of a one man mod.

BTW there were military flamberges - it's just that they were very expensive. They wouldn't have been any heavier than the widely used landsknecht greatswords, though I did tone down the size of both the flamberge and zweihander slightly for the next patch.

I'm not proposing any rapierplay in battles (although there was considerable advantage in using a light piercing weapon with precision against someone in armor) because it wouldn't be as fun as rapierplay against a single opponent. I don't know about fencing "tournaments" because thats not realy historical. I'm proposing dueling, either as a profession or against an NPC who pisses you off.

"I challange you to a duel, Borcha. *Slaps Borcha round face with glove* Swords at dawn." Ahhh the revenge for many arrows to the head.

not sure how well this would work, but if your going for a renissance style mod with rapiers, could you change the worldmap to appear to be the inside of a city with towns being different merchants and such, then allow for street fights like in Romeo and Juliet, with wandering mobs of armed civillians duking it out over feuds and stuff?
