There's christians priests in Mierce cities as well as anywhere :( . And I cant find any pagans...
There's anyway the player can bring paganism back to britain? (not historicaly correct but a nice challenge?)
Btw, great mod, I'm loving it!

Talking of religion: when you choose to "Bury the dead" it appears that you in fact cremate the remains.

Could we have the option to do a Pagan cremation or a Christian inhumation?

Actually, it is a icon, cremate is more impresive, but game dont different enter christian or pagan here

Lords of Lindisware drag priests of Woden around with them. I don't think it matters, though..there doesn't seem to be anything in-game that deals with it besides the priests, who don't really have a purpose as of yet besides being expensive arrow fodder.

Priests have nice healing skills. But I guess they don't help the player much?

Bad mouth christianity to one of the abbots in a castle, and you are instantly at war with that faction. Saves you the trouble of finding a peasant stack, or losing honor by randomly attacking a lord. :D

I could have sworn that by the 600's everyone (except perhaps a boondock Pict) was Christian.  I know the Saxons converted to Christianity within 2 generations of historic leaders (meaning by the mid 500's).

Edit:  Apparently it was the leaders.  The general population took longer :)

King Penda of Mercia never converted to Christianity, though he did allow Christian missionaries within his kingdom. He died in 655. Also, the first English king didn't convert until the end of the 6th century - 597 was Augustine's mission to the Cantware, and King Aethelbert was the first English King to convert.

I've seen a few lords with Thor's Hammer around their neck. This may be game mechanics though. I killed him and took the armour. Long live Thor!!

no, at the time, the christian monks were mostly just concerned with converting the rich, noble, & wealthy, to take their money.  If you were a peasant and didn't have anything for them to take, they really weren't interested if you were "saved" or not because it didn't benefit them directly.  (they used the money from nobles & wealthy converts to fund abbeys & get land for abbeys, & fund more missionary work, ect. mosty BS hogwash.)  Even then, in 719-751, Charles Martel (throughout Europe) only used Christianity & the Christian church as a tool to keep the people subserviant & unite them.  He even raided & looted the abbeys to use the money to fund his troops for campaign.  It wasn't until later that the roles got reversed, and he ended up the lapdog of the church instead of the other way arround.  Destroying Pagan icons & structures that opposed christianity for the church (about 734 AD) when the church sent him on a revenge mission agains the Frisians for Expelling/Exiling corrupt Missionaries.  So indeed, there should be Paganism  throughout the land in 636, even moreso than christianity, at the time, christianity had not gained the foothold yet that it wanted, and mostly busied itself with converting the wealthy & taking their money.  I would also like to see more Pict Shamen & Worshippers of Thor & other older gods in the area as they would be more prominent. But not as imposing.

I think Thor is Thunor in Old English.

But anyway, it would be nice if religion had a bit more emphasis in the game than it does right now. For example, there could be wandering Christian missionaries around the map, as someone suggested in another thread, and you could either offer them protection or slaughter and rob them. Another thing that could be cool would be the chance to decide on the religion of the realm when running a kingdom, by assigning either a Christian bishop or a Pagan priest to your court. Their function could also be expanded somehow.

Lastly, you could also get to hire or otherwise get clerics or pagan priest in your party, and they would have their own functions, maybe in boosting the morale of your troops. E.g: if you have priests of Woden in your party, the cattle encounter menu would allow you to sacrifice some of the cattle to pagan gods, and in turn your troops would gain some morale, or something similar.
Just some thoughts.

unfortunately Thor's hammer was a symbol that converted into christianity... so they're a very likely christian.

good idea :)

Yes indeed, brilliant idea! :D I suggested some priest parties on the map earlier in this thread, and I think too, that it would make  immersion much deeper! I love the sacrifice part ! 8-)

M&B isn't really setup to model religion, but if a system could be put into place it should also include Celtic Christianity and simulate the conflict between:

the celtic church
the roman church
vestiges of paganism.

At the very least there could be more dialogue referring to St Coloumba, the Easter controversy, etc. when talking to Abbots/Bishops.

How much of the game mechanics can be changed? Could "Honor" be changed to "Christian Virtue" or some other name, and could the things that affect it be drastically altered? Then certain actions could be performed to identify the player with Christianity or Paganism. Perfoming pagan rites could lower it, giving 'christian burial' could raise it, etc.

Otherwise I don't see how religion could be added in a meaningful way. It'd just be more back-story.

The actual problem is that honor modifies your relation with villages and common people. And in this time I think most of the common and poor people were still pagan. Kingdoms were christian, but monks converted first the nobles and kings.

Turning honor into "christian faith" would make a pagan hated by everybody.

But  8-) I agree with you, a "Christian" or "Pagan" reputation would be nice!

Mm, it is possible create a new "feature" and call ot "Faith"  or similar. But it is necesary think very much like Faith affect world.

Note: There two "religions" in this time: pagan (Woden religion) and Christian.
We havent druids or similar yet.

if you have ideas, writte it here.

ah, We will add monks parties in map in 1.3 version  :D

We add this new feature:
-if it is compatible with savegames.
-If code necesary isnt too long and need too work (we wish fix Brytenwalda first before add most issues  :D)
