Relation With Town NPCs (Recruitment)

Hello everyone,

So I have been struggling with recruiting higher tier troops in my last campaign with the Aserai. Despite doing some quests, fighting bandits etc., I still can't develop enough relations with town npcs so they offer me additional recruiting slots. Now, I am going to start a new campaign where I will focus on siding with Valandia, is there any specific tips to gain relation with town NPCs from early on? Because it's really important in mid game, when at war, to quickly return to those towns to recruit more troops (preferably higher tiers) and get back to the battlefront. People say different thing like clearing bandit hideouts, quests and so on but I find it difficult to do so. I saw couple of people on Youtube being able to go back to small towns and recruit high tier troops like insane.

So basically we need moar drama.

Was gonna pitch this quest to the Devs: You got 2 competing Bear farms in this village and one owner, we'll call him Big Gay Juan, has a real beef with a shady Mistress Carolina Basketts who's husband has also been missing near the feeding den..oh wait, don't wanna spoil it

One cheesy way i have found, is go to a town with many criminals. And just keep attacking one of them, then the other will lower you. You get like around +10 or something every time. But yeah they really need to add more missions for them, and ones that are not .. do something ilegal which with make every one hate you, exept one guy who might like you a little bit better.

Yeah, I will give that a try. I totally agree with you that they need to make more quests available (new types as well). The cheesiest method I found is to basically lower the difficulty of recruitment to very easy, which will make 3 instead of 1 available slots for recruitment. I was trying to avoid that but since I don't cheese save, I will give it a go. I understand the game is currently in EA so there is only so much they could fix at the moment.

If you sit in a town while leading an army you passively gain relation with all the NPCs incredibly fast. With about 5-10m of IRL time waiting around you will have them all up to 20+ relation. I guess it has something to do with them liking the fact that you are choosing to park your army in their town? No idea but it's amazing.

Wait, you can attack criminals?

Yep, no quest needed. Go to one of the hangout spots (Backstreet, etc), and pick a fight with a Thug (it's pretty straightforward in the dialogue). You and companion(s) beat down the few Thugs present, and then that generates a larger gang fight. Assuming you win (pay attention to your & companions' civilian outfit gear), you lose some relation with the crime lord you picked a fight with, but gain a larger amount with the other one, so it's a net relations gain. It's basically a way to repeatedly do the Rival Gang quest whenever/wherever/often as you want. I guess one could go back and forth doing this to both sides, would gradually raise relations with both gang leaders. (Also raises relations with whatever noble clan owns the town, I guess because you're kinda doing freelance police work for them).

And obtw, this is also worth doing for the loot: Thamaskene Steel (not guaranteed, but usually) appears. Even if you're not into leveling Smithing, it sells great in the market.

If this is true that will be amazing. Honestly I never thought about staying in towns for any time. I get my business done and go about my way. Is this like a game mechanic or some sort of bug?

Seems like an intended mechanic to me. Only happens with an assembled army, not with your individual party. Which does mean it doesn't come into play during early game.

Don'y forget that you get +1 free recruitment slot with every character in your faction and another +1 in your fiefs. Or at last you should, unless it's another thing not working yet in the EA, I wasn't checking.

Good to know, I will try it.

Also great way to increase a lot of relations is to step in a fight between bandits and peasants. You get relations for going in this fight and another relations for winning it.

Does this work also for villages ? Also wanted to ask does this work only on towns/villages that are owned by your faction or can i sit in neutral fiefs and relation will increase anyway ?

The noble troops only seem to be available in villages, and then only from notables with high influence. Like 200 and higher, so it pays to make friends with the important villagers. I haven't figured out yet if town and village notables gain influence over the course of a game or if doing their quests increases it.

Also i have just tried the trick while i had the army with one of the lords from other clan and i ve been in the town as an army for 3 mins and nothing changed at all. Seems like that is not working.
