Warband Turtle Soldier Nix Mod

Description:

This mod removes the extra shield on all troops (that I could find) so that AI soldiers no longer carry a shield on their back and another on their arm.

You may still encounter this strange turtle effect in the opening sequence where the bandit attacks you, and possibly in other scripted quest events. I only made changes to kingdom troops and roaming bandits/raiders, but these make up the vast majority of the units you're likely to encounter in Warband.

Installation:

Make backup of troops.txt in your Warband Module, located in:

Mount&Blade Warband/Modules/Native (Or other module you may be using)

Place troops.txt from this file into your module

Play! (You'll have to start a new game to see the changes)

Changelog:

1.1 trp_sea_raider_leader still had multiple shields. Fixed.
1.1b trp_sea_raider_leader was not the culprit, but trp_sea_raider.  Missed his extra shield, but fixed now.

Bugs: None that I know of. If you come across any troops who still have turtle backs, PM me at the official TaleWorlds forums under my user name, MarkQuinn.

Compatablity: This mod was made for Warband version 1.104 and MAY or MAY NOT work in earlier or later versions. If TaleWorlds releases a new patch (any day now) which changes the troops.txt, this mod will be overwritten and you're stuck with turtles again. I'll try to update it when I can, but hopefully TaleWorlds will see the light and fix it themselves. Have fun!

New version up: 1.1b fixes  trp_sea_raider who was missed.  If you find any more, please let me know.

Could you explain how you got rid of the double-shields? Is it an issue of troops having two shield items in their inventory?

Shik, yes, that's it.  In some cases they had three.

You have to know the numerical code of the shield, which I got from the old M&B Troop Editor (it works to view everything, but can't actually make changes in WB, or else you crash).  Once you have the shield number, just go through each troop manually in troops.txt to see who has more than one shield.  Remove the shield number along with the "0" after it, making sure to keep spacing just as it was before your deletion.  At the end of the list of "-1 0's", add another "-1 0" sequence for each shield removed (thanks to Rule zum Rabensang for the tip).

The drawback, obviously, is that some troops which had two shield types will now only ever chose that one (whichever one you left for them).  So there's a bit less variety, but in a lot of cases they had two identical shields, and I would say about 70% only had one shield to begin with (i.e. were not problematic) so it'll be mostly unnoticeable in the end.
