Hi I was wondering do you need Steam to join?

Yes you will need Steam. All members have to be in our Steam group, which is the easiest and most direct way of contacting someone if the need arises. Announcements and events are posted on the Steam group.

Like Betaknight said it isn't hard to download it. You don't have to have a steam copy of the game either you can easily add it to your steam library once you have it downloaded. It must be legit however otherwise multiplayer will not work correctly. You can download steam here: http://store.steampowered.com/about/

Just install it, get yourself an account, and you will be good.
