Recruiting lords and their towns

Hey Everyone!

What happened:
During my campaign I got a lord to join me and was quite surprised when he brought his town (Laria, sp?) plus 800 men garrison and two villages with him.
I thought to myself, well that seems to be a glitch and i just got lucky there. I gifted myself the town (which pissed of the lord quite a bit) and carried on smiling.
But no! A few hours later I got a second lord to join and he also came with town, garrison and villages (that still had the flags of enemy lords up, until I assigned them to me and my guys).
Since its A LOT easier (and more economic) to capture lords who own towns than it is besieging the towns, my question is:

Is this working as intendet?

cheers

I don't understand that part. Are the fiefs not given the flag of the owning lord?

That would mean the current lord (being the lord who joined you, in this case) would have his flag flying above the fiefs.

The second town that joined (the one north of Laria, Marlo-something) came with 2 villages that had the flags of 2 different enemy lords flying. Not the flag of the lord that joined me.
That seemed a bit odd to me.

Oh, I see. Those fiefs must have been automatically taken from those enemy lords, seeing as they are property of the town.

Normally each town has several villages each village can be given by the king to different lords that what was possible happened. Since you gifted yourself those villages i suppose there might be a few other pissed of lords somewhere since you stole there villages.

This is working as intended.

If you manage to recruit the lord of a town or castle, that town or castle becomes part of your kingdom.  Once the town is yours, all the villages beholden to that town are yours.

(Doesn't matter that some other lords "own" those villages... they are no longer in those lords' kingdom. )

The banner thing is something we've struggled with.  Trying to get the villages to properly change banners when changing owners has been a bear.  The workaround is to gift them to yourself or other vassals with the seneschal, as it seems you've discovered already

And yes, it is a very quick and bloodless way to get territory.  It can also be a pain in the butt.  My current kingdom is centered around Ravenstern/Mysthorn/Dagon and the last lord I recruited owned Seven Cross.... sucker is always getting slaughtered traveling from his castle to mine...

Well thanks for the answer!
Now it wont feel like cheating anymore when i get those big, ripe towns with all the soldiers in them for myself!

Well i got damn lucky to get those two towns right next to eachother it seems. The castles in between I will still get the hard and bloody way. I just love to snipe guys from the walls.

cheers
