Is it possible to get my crappy onboard Realtek to record audio? I've got a X-Fi around here somewhere, but I didn't much like it, the onboard sound is just as good (except in Oblivion) and doesn't **** up.

AC97's a badass onboard, man. Don't hate. Of course you can record on it... just plug a mic into the port, like normal. Do you mean capture audio? As in, save the audio that is playing from your speakers? Yeah, you can do that too. Just set your recording options to Stereo Mix and then start recording in something.

Make sure your stereo mix volume in the recording panel is low to start with. Otherwise BOOM BABY...

Yeah, I like it better than my X-Fi, I just say "crappy onboard" as a matter of habit.

Thanks for the help, folks. I'll try it out.

Ok, rejenorst was right, that was loud.

Is there any way to change that independently? All of the volume options under record (except record) are greyed out.
