Realistic lancing/pike/spear use/loss

So if you skewer someone, especially if a horse is involved, there's a good chance you'll loose your spear in the corpse, or the spear'll break, and you'll need to swap out for a secondary or go get another.

That'd add a lot of strategy to things. choosing to preserve your spear with an overhead attack or risking a couch, planning a route that'll get a replacement, taking time to recover your spear from a corpse whilst your allies fight.

So, what do you think of a system like this? too in the way of the flow of the game?

Would be nice to have weapon wear and tear.  Wonder if it could be made so that modders can incorporate it.  Just another aspect of warband that I think would be challenging and fun.  Well, maybe not fun for everyone but its these things that matter.

I was quite impressed by how warband was able to calculate momentum in spear attacks.  Maybe if you get massive damage you'll impale someone and probably lose your lance.

See how Battlefield 1 handled it:

Loosing a pike will greatly nerf cav because very little is achieveable with a sword in MP.

It should maybe break in certain kind of thrusts like if you stuck the lance to the guys further side of you or to middle of his breast (and when the horse is galloping in a certain amount of speed) lance can break or force you to leave it on body what I mean is that it should be depended on the player no matter what.
It should give a chance to skilled/pro players to not loosing it.

Also man I really liked those lance  impalings in Battlefield 1

Would it be stealing if M&B convert this animation to itself ?

Ripping animations is stealing, yes. Making one that's similar or even the same is not. It's not like they can just take the animation anyways.

Oh, but, let's not. Because those look terrible and make no sense what so ever. You can't impale somebody on your lance and strut around with him like he's some Kebab.

With the speed you get from your horse and with couched lance thanks to the torque you can aerate the poor guy on your lance a bit nothing unrealistic in here.

While it's obviously something we need to try out because it'd make a great youtube vid... No way can you do that to a guy in armour, and you really do hurt your arm on every impact, so I doubt you're going to carry people. I think that actions more to facilitate battlefield's arcade play.

I am forced to believe that you are absolutely thick. You cannot turn people into shish kebab and carry then around. You can't stick 100 kilograms on the end of a stick and hold it horizontally.

I wouldn't care for this system in Multiplayer. If the sole reason I lost any fight was because my weapon randomly broke, I would be very annoyed.

Although i like realistic lance behavior, i doubt it being like in those vids is realistic. Sure, would be fun to carry someone around on the business end of your lance/spear, but you will have to be 3 meters tall and weighing over 200kg of muscle to being able to pull that off on a horse that's charging like that. And don't even get me started about the teleporting bodies.. i mean, look at it, some were on the edge of getting trampled by the horse, and suddenly ended up on the lance. some were even more towards the other side of the horse when they were 'hit'.
I am all for what the OP suggested, losing a spear/lance in a horse/enemy soldier, sometimes even breaking if the angle of attack is not right, that's realistic i think, but those BF vids? no thankyou
