Is it me, or is it near impossible to attack Forest Bandit hideouts on Realistic difficulty in the early stages of the game?
Every bandit is armed with a bow, and they NEVER miss. On realistic it only takes 2-3 arrows to bring myself or my men down. As a result, the few randomly selected soldiers I'm forced to attack with get absolutely annihilated within seconds. SECONDS. In my last assault I lost half of my force just trying to get close to the first 3 bandits we saw. Even when I am several hours into a campaign, with plenty of armored veteran infantry, somehow the game will provide me several unarmored recruits for my assault who simply cannot approach the bandits. Since I'm limited to a few soldiers and no reinforcements, why can't I choose the men I bring? Though, even if I get lucky enough to have 3 or 4 veterans with me, they rarely keep their shield up as they approach and generally don't get much further than the first or second group of 2-3 bandits. Am I missing something?
I'm enjoying the difficulty of Realistic overall. The increased damage makes the fights more deadly and more exciting. I love that, in the larger scale battles where I have room to maneuver, avoiding missles and correctly flanking becomes even more important. But these bandit hideouts feel completely imbalanced considering they are some of the first missions offered. Am I not supposed to be engaging these bandits this "early?" I can't imagine it being right to need fully armored knights to kick in some bandit camps.
