I know you all probably think im being racist but im not, I just want to know what you guys think about this. I have kinda noticed by the stuff they make and everything like that, that they act like they are better and know whats right and whats wrong. Just by watching anime and some asian drama's I kinda noticed that but can anyone else say the same.

If you are referring to Japan in particular by way of anime, the stereotype of the protagonist being self assured about things like "justice" and "right" as if the audience would agree with their hair brained sense of morality without question, is a by-product of a collective inferiority complex. Canadians have it. Rednecks with huge trucks have it. Essentially, any militant "victim" displays this behavior in spades. Narcissism is mask of delusion that compensates for a lack of genuine self-worth. What better way to appeal to teenagers who have yet to self-actualize an identity than to create a fantasy were characters are the height of badassery and awesomeness, cackling with magic powers, menacing with spikes of dolomite, and most importantly, lacking all the doubts and insecurities of youth? And blue hair. You gotta have blue hair. To mature adults such characters are giant pricks.

Continued,

To answer the presumed meaning of the topic title, I would say no. Being that most anime and asian dramas are japanese or korean, its safe to point out the monoculture generates a strong sense of morality that would be challenged into debate by multicultural societies. You should keep in mind that these shows are intended for domestic audiences, mostly at teens who consequently have immature senses of self, and display a certain sense of nationalism, which might be expressed in definition of right that is characteristic of that culture. Sort of in the same way Americans try to ram "freedom" down peoples throat.

I admire your desire to explain, but don't you think you are wasting your time? He is stupid enough to judge a whole race by anime shows done by a minority.

I guess someone will, soon enough.

There are series that don't do that, however they're mostly for adults where morality is a bit more ambiguous and the audience has to fill in a lot of the gaps with their own reasoning.

I think this description of media programs for young teenagers and its distinction from media for adults in the region is pretty much the same everywhere. Or at least, everywhere where the adult population is a lot less restrained in what they can express.

There is another way of seeing this though, and it is that the shows Pearce is referring to isn't intended to be a direct positive reflection of the culture or values of Japan. It's kinda like assuming that MLP has heavy American undertones when it's just trying to convey objective concepts like friendship, cuteness, and such. They might be ladened by American culture per se, but it's often not the case that the show is deliberately saying that American, Japanese, Hong Kong, or Indian culture is better, merely that they are just trying to show these concepts through a coloured perspectives.

Racism is the idea that you should make your judgements and decisions about people according to their race. Saying that "asians think they're better" because of the "stuff they make" is racist, because you're saying that all asians can and should be judged by the actions of some asians. So yeah, unless you just worded it badly, you're being racist.

Where's the evidence of this strong sense of morality that's supposed to be unique to anime?

I believe he refers to most anime/manga having very clear-cut good & evil, white & black sort of scenarios.
It's kinda obvious the Japanese include panty/boob-shots whenever possible, so I don't think he's referring to that.

I watched Texas Ranger, Stargate SG1, McGyver and A-Team. Apparently every American is a lean mean killing machine who is also an expert in all things physics and engineering. People from the UK are just very very silly. Fins run around screaming "PERKELE" naked while riding a reindeer which in place is riding a snowmobile. Mass media for realistic information of foreign people FTW.

And I think you're thinking too much into it. No need to add your own philosophy to other's logic. It'll only overcomplicate.
