True, but it stating something very obvious. I expect a quote to introduce me an idea. 2/5

I really would like someone to introduce me the wisdom within this quote. I can't say I agree much to this, but there it goes:
"Hope in reality is the worst of all evils because it prolongs the torments of man."
Friedrich Nietzsche

Nietzsche was a bit of a nut, I wouldn't say it is universally true but there is some truth in it.

For example:

A man is sentenced to life in prison for a crime he didn't commit. He would rather be dead than live life in prison, however he holds out hope that he will eventually be acquitted.

However this never happens and he lives his whole life in misery rather than end his pain by taking his own life.

"Peace is not an absence of war, it is a virtue, a state of mind, a disposition for benevolence, confidence, justice." - Baruch Spinoza

I'm not a fan of Spinoza, but this one is allright. And true in most cases, too. I believe. 3.5/5.

"To overcome the Russian, two bullets are necessary. One, in order to kill him, and another, in order to bring him down."
-Frederick the Great

Also known as double tap, when disabling quickly is important. One to the chest and one to the head (or liver, when you shoot at Russians).
He really wanted to say that Russians are tough SOBs, which is common knowledge by now. 3/5

"Kiss me, Hardy."
- Horatio Nelson on his deathbed to his flag captain

I like this Nelson quote because all his others are utterly pompous and superficial - all about duty, England, and dubious advice on naval combat. When he was dying he merely wanted a kiss from his trusted lieutenant, which made him human for a moment.
I like to picture Osama Bin Laden dying in a similar way, in the arms of a Navy Seal, and saying "Kiss me, American devil." before expiring. The world makes much more sense that way.

I feel empathy for Nelson.  4/5

"There is no expedient to which man will not resort to avoid the real labor of thinking."  -- Thomas A. Edison

"My grandmother started walking five miles a day when she was sixty. She's ninety-seven now, and we don't know where the hell she is."- Ellen DeGeneres

3.5/5 pretty clever. Not a big DeGeneres fan myself though. I actually like the quotes in your signature 10x better.

The man who reads nothing at all is better educated than the man who reads nothing but newspapers.
Thomas Jefferson

As fun as it is to rag on the yellow press, especially now with 24 Hour News networks churning out verbal diarrhea to pad out the space between ad slots, a man still has to stay on top of current events. But what fun is a pithy remark if it compromises itself for the sake of accuracy? 4/5

"It is not necessary for the public to know whether I am joking or whether I am serious, just as it is not necessary for me to know it myself." - Salvador Dali, a quote which sustains me whenever my sense of humour crosses the bounds of good taste.

A good quote. Creative people should be able to joke about most things. 4/5

A single death is a tragedy; a million deaths is a statistic.
